Compass Box
Scotland
A limited edition blended malt from Compass Box co-created with Rosey Mitchell, 2018 winner of The Circle, the brand's global programme designed to inspire bartenders. The blend is primarily based around Tamdhu single malt, supported by sherry-aged Clynelish, a peaty Orkney malt and a French oak-aged Highland malt blend.
With whiskies from all over Scotland, this is a rather approachable blend with loads of fruity, creamy notes. As you may be able to tell from the beaming sun in the middle of the label, this was a dram designed for sunny days.
Barley sugar, fresh stone fruits, crisp apple skin, ginger spice and vanilla fudge.
Tarte tatin and vanilla cream, with lots of sweet malt and cinnamon.
A suggestion of smoke, oak spice, floral malt and vanilla pod.
The start is bright and lively as expected, the citrus and delicate fruity notes shine through, followed closely by some rich sugary flavors, but then it starts to fade. There is a promising hint of a deep smokey bass note but as soon as you think you have heard it it is gone. With a little more in the middle and the end it would be a fantastic dram.
