Compass Box
Scotland
A delightful blended grain whisky, Hedonism really is as enjoyable as the name suggests. Exclusively matured in American oak barrels, the result is a smooth and creamy offering from Compass Box.
From the first delectable introduction, Hedonism is all ripe fruit, fraises des bois and sponge cake. Some red pepper provides an interesting point to mull.
Very sensual, disarmingly sleek and creamy. Black cherry and sweet spices, some cereal notes.
Very warm and spiced, toasty, some oak and milk chocolate.

The nose takes time to develop, then the coconut really hits you. It's an unusual whisky with a full-flavour – coconut, vanilla, coffee, liquorice and crème brûlée, with an emphasis on the coconut. I prefer other Compass Box's other offerings in terms of more traditional whisky flavours – Asyla (very light but a good morning whisky) and Peat Monster – but it's an interesting and unusual blend. I'd recommend buying the mixed box instead of just this bottle and then see which appeals more.
This is the grain whisky you want, it's absolutely fantastic, I'm filled with joy every time I pour a glass. It's not a big bold whisky but what it is, is far from bland. It's silky and creamy in the mouth with amazing flavors of coconut, vanilla and cream. A small dash of water and after a little while sitting in the glass it becomes more complex all the while retaining its lovely mouth feel.
Yes, amazing...and I'm not one for overstatement...this is deep, full of wonderful grain tastes that go beyond the normal...there is black cherry, cereal, woody oak, vanilla and spme spice. Hedonistic indeed...this whisky is comparatively rare so I've stocked up with several bottles now...and this wonderful whisky has been the soundtrack to some incredible London hotel nights with amazing women....exactly what it was designed to do. Exciting.
Good whisky is good whisky and great whisky is great whisky. This is something you want to pass your lips and totally enjoy....and you do not want to get too cerebral about. Life is short; this libation will not disappoint.
I sampled this at a whisky show and was impressed enough to get a whole bottle but now that I'm 3/4 through I've gotten a bit bored with the way the new wood tones (perfume vanilla, sawdust, fresh sawed log, vanilla creme) are so prominent while the grain's contribution to the whole seems a tad shy in comparison.
