This was rated Blended Whisky of the Year 2012 by Whisky Advocate magazine.

Named for the address of Compass Box’s Edinburgh offices, Great King Street is a new range of highly approachable whiskies which are aimed at not just whisky connoisseurs, but at non-whisky drinkers and cocktail drinkers as well. This is the first edition, named Artist’s Blend. It’s a rich, full-bodied whisky with lots of fruit and spice.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Sweet and creamy, with lots of cereal notes, some vanilla, dried fruits, citrus and apple crumble.

Palate: A gentle, creamy whisky, which develops a great deal of richness. Notes of Christmas spices, lemon, buttery apple crumble, Bakewell tart, rose petals and raisins.

Finish: Rich and sweet, with a long finish which tails off with notes of quince jelly, shortbread and spices.

Overall: Incredibly quaffable, an excellent whisky, and a definite crowd pleaser.

Compass Box Great King Street - Artist's Blend 50cl Reviews

Great in a Highball

I usually go for Kakubin for a highball (over ice and soda) but this is also really good.

Wonderful whisky at a wonderful price.

A wonderful sweet whisky. One of the best buys of the year. Love it.

A great example of the art of blending whisky. Great job once again John Glaser!!!!!!

A Masterpiece

Ill tell you why to not compare this unfavorably to Glenmorangie. Glenmorangie is a fantastic single malt - arguably the best in the world at its price point. This is a different animal. This is not meant to be a single malt. The exquisite balance of high quality grain whiskies gives Great King Street a unique flavor profile. This cannot be replicated by a single malt brand of whiskey. When you go to a high end restaurant, do you want one spice or a blend of spices? This is a blend of spices. Pure genius.

Should be Six Star

Anyone who does not appreciate Artist’s Blend has the taste buds of an Iguana.
This is what whiskey tasted like in its golden age. John Glaser, the master blender, is a genius. Artists blend is universally admired by the most serious whiskey tasters.

Creamy Spice

This easily holds its own with much more expensive whiskys. For example, I tasted it with Glen Grant 18 Year Old Rare Edition - both have similar flavor profiles in some ways (spice/fruit/no smoke). The Glen Grant wins, but not by much.

I like it.

I'm an Artist, it's Artist's Blend, I had to have it. Funny, I set out to get a single malt and came home with a blend. I was not disappointed, it's great.

Buy the real thing for the same price

No true whisky drinker would rate this seriously. Produced obviously for fashionable bars mixing cocktails & catering for the general drinking crowd, it's "Nice" - dating with faint praise. Quite like Glenmorangie, but why not have the real thing.

Five stars for the price.

I qualify this with "for the price." A really good everyday whisky for those who balk at paying twice as much for something that isn't twice as good.

Easy drinking

I am more of a smokey single malt guy, but this is a nice blend.

10th December 2015

Smooth, pleasant

This probably brings out the best in blended scotch; no dominant flavors but several subtle ones that add up to a very drinkable, crowd pleaser of a scotch. It's smooth, sweet at the end, and I tasted some oak somewhere in the middle although it was a bit tough to pin down. Taking into account the price this is a very good whisky.

Very Nice

This scotch surprised me because the price is very minimal. It is very crisp and is kind of like drinking and apple/pear juice. I actually like this one better than Dalwhinnie 15 and Glenlivet 15.

This was a nice dram, especially for the price. It is a nice blend for newbies to try to start their scotch journey. Very rich and sweet with a nice long finish.

Fruit and Cereal

Very very nice! A whiskey everyone can enjoy. Certainly not something the peaty smokey people will embrace, but a nice dram to enjoy with friends and family.

The best blend

I have tried many blends and liked some but missed the point with others. This is simply excellent whisky. If you usually only buy malts give this a go you won't be disappointed. Wonderfully complex and long.

11th December 2014

Simply delicious. Two glasses down, about to pour one more ... And I always stop at two.

29th September 2014

solid flavor

Was given this bottle by a friend who works in the industry, and after tasting I'll definitely pay for it. I enjoy the oak finish

27th September 2014

Not a bad whisky

Smooth, light, and still it packs a kick. A decent offering for the price.

Ron Avery

The chap that suggested that that it was "crap like J@B" doesn't know much about scotch. This has great style although it is a bit like J&B, I happen to like it. Drink your urine if you want, I'll stick to the whisky.

unbelievably awfully good! of course with luck the more people that give it bad reviews means more for ME! Too subtle for those with dull palates- a thoroughly enjoyable dram

Great Scotch Blend

I've been drinking Scotch for 35 years--just the best of them all, really. This is one of the most approachable bottles i've tried. My wife loves it! That's all I have to say.

8th December 2013

compass box great king street- artist blend

This is crap taste like J@B scotch not worth the coin.I would rather drink my own urine. These wanks should be beaten with haggis.

Good stuff

Very good. I'm surprised that MoM did not mention coconut in their tasting notes. Some Glenglassaugh in there?

10th July 2013

Pleasant enough. I ended up making hot toddies out of it. Too dull to drink neat.

29th November 2012

Great Value

A fantastic sort of spicey orange blend. Not just for the ladies! Incredible for the price. Excellent value.

21st November 2012

Very nice

A seriously delicious whisky, not just for women-my boyfriend really likes it too.
