This small batch bourbon is named after Colonel Edmund Haynes Taylor, an incredibly important figure in bourbon's history from the 1800s who owned a whole host of distilleries and innovated production methods which are still used today. It's only right that the Colonel EH Taylor Small Batch lives up to his name by being absolutely amazing.
Caramel apples, fresh corn and cloves. Butterscotch sneaks in after a while.
More corn sweetness, mixed with slight spiciness of rye and cinnamon.
Medium and very rich with creamy vanilla.
A really great small batch bourbon.
Remarkably smooth with caramel yet at 100 proof. Really quite good.
I must agree with a previous review in that the price in the States is more realistic. My last bottle of this fine session Bourbon was $39 US. At that price, this is a magnificent whiskey. Lovely nose with leather and clover flowers. On the tongue, a nice coating containing cocoa and orange peel, molasses and oak. The finish is just long enough with just enough heat to remind you this dram didn't come from a plastic bottle. Overall, I would definitely buy again and plan on doing so.... just not for 100 bones!
Ninety five pounds sterling! I could buy 3 bottles of Whiskey for the same price just as good as this. As an example, Eagle Rare 10, Four Roses barrel strength and Knob Creek! You have been warned!
My second go to, well third, Blanton's then Teeling and EH Taylor. However, for this price there are other options out there. In the states we have the advantage of this bottle being around $40-50 which makes it a spot on competitor to the others out there as it is a solid, high quality bourbon with just enough bite but doesn't make you forget about that vanilla back of tongue and a creamy non-watered down feel. I prefer it neat like most bourbons but I do find a splash of water opens this one a bit and you'll end up with more of the fresh fruit smells and flavors. However, at this cost it would be up to you, I can state it is a 4.5/5 star bourbon.
The last of the advent calendar...24th, but best of the lot! Luxurious, smooth, sweet - all good words. No long after ?, but that's ok with me. Try Makers 46 if that's what you like. Wonderful.
