Cask strength Clynelish here, bottled by Gordon & MacPhail! This was distilled in June 2001 and set aside in a pair of refill Sherry casks for 14 years until January 2016, when it was bottled at 54% ABV. Rather fond of Sherried Clynelish, we are...
Grassy herbs and salted butter before waves of Christmas spices and red fruit.
Allspice and clove. Sultanas develop with a bit of toasted bread.
Long smoke notes paired with juicy redcurrant and raisin.

Yes, its a very decent sherried highlander - thankfully not over sherried - and you have to admire the 'cask strength, no caramel, no chill filtration' honesty, at a fair price. Very enjoyable, and tasted blind I might have guessed as Glen Scotia 21. However... no smoke whatsoever, zero peat, and to be honest it lacks any Clynelish character. If that matters.
