It's the first release kicking off Clonakilty's Cask Finish series, and the blend was initially matured in bourbon casks. After, it was finished in virgin American oak as well as shaved, toasted and re-charred ex-Bordeaux red wine-seasoned European oak casks – it's even said to be the very first Irish whiskey to be finished in the latter!
Grassy sweetness, apple blossom and fresh orchard fruit, with a pinch of tobacco and gentle wood spice.
A spicier palate, with a kick of ginger leading into creamy nuttiness and sweet vanilla.
Praline and cinnamon butter lingers.
My wife knows I prefer Irish malt whisky and I usually have Jameson single malt, but she bought me this as a surprise and I now will endeavour to purchase this one instead
Creamy, fruity and a little nutty. Nice and full flavoured for 43% as well. But could do with being 10-15 quid cheaper as there are some real heavy hitters in the Irish category at this price point that outshine this.
