Festive flavours like Christmas cake, dark chocolate, medjool dates, and cinnamon are the name of the game here. And by "name of the game", we of course mean that Christmas Cake & Dark Chocolate & Medjool Dates & Cinnamon is literally the name of this whisky. What we've got is a superb Speyside single malt Scotch whisky, aged for eight years and boasting a sleighful of Yuletide elements, perfect for enjoying... Well, yeah, it'll obviously be brilliant at Christmas, and any whisky fan will be thrilled to find a bottle under the tree with their name on it. It'll probably be great any time of year if you're a lover of sherried single malt, thinking about it, but it does have that little bit of holly on the label, so, y'know, Christmas and that.
Dried fruit soaked in sherry, gingersnaps, brandy butter, clove, malty vanilla lingering underneath.
A big helping of orange as it arrives on the palate, soon joined by dark chocolate shavings, golden syrup, cinnamon sticks, dried cherry, dates, and shortbread.
The eponymous Christmas cake notes hang around for a good while afterwards, with hints of citrus oil and chocolate mousse.
Turns out that very descriptive name is... Well, it's very descriptive, and incredibly accurate, too!

So the blind tasting evening began with the pouring of the Christmas Cake & Dark Chocolate & Medjool Dates & Cinnamon, 8 year old at 48%. I certainly did not know what to expect when ordering this but at $40 a bottle why not! Right? We are whisky tasting club. I expected some horrible mixture and as a few members commented afterwards that if this was an ‘open’ tasting where we saw the bottle and details it would have clouded members perception. Instead this was a surprise with most members scoring it through the eighties for an average score of 85. Only six members out of the 23 marked it mid to high seventies. Most members said they would buy it - blind - and especially when the price was revealed. The overall commentary was that it was a very interesting, beautiful, fruity, sweet, confident , comfortable Speyside whisky. Though the nose vacillated between good and poor, the taste overall was considered very long and sweet though for most the finish and C& fell off, in some cases quite quickly. To be fair four members just did not like it with one member describing it as ‘horrible’ and weak overall. The general consensus was that this was a surprise whisky and very acceptable and would like to see it in the cellar.
Absolute BLISS in a glass. Very seasonal Enjoy!
Subtle hints of the tastes and flavours in the description without interfering with the basic taste of the malt whisky taste . The latter being smooth, with a hint of sweetness. Nice aftertaste of Xmas flavours.
Dates and cinnamon not so much, deffo Christmas cake and hint of chocolate, with a nice heat afterwards.
Full bodied with lots of sweet fruit from the Sherry cask. Don't look for anything other than what it says it is. Not super complex but is the epitome of truth in advertising.
