A Speyside blended malt from a single hogshead cask, the Burnside 20 Year Old was released with an outturn of 103 bottles. Of natural colour and without chill filtration, it was bottled at 51.7% for Chorlton, and listed as a 'Burnside' blended whisky.
Burnside is what's known as a 'teaspooned' malt, which means that a tiny amount of whisky from another distillery is mixed with whisky from one distillery, so it can't be sold as a single malt under any distillery's name.
Complex sweetness from highland shortbread, caramel, tinned peaches, with alfresco notes of heather, pine needles and damp hay.
Bitter orange and lush nectarine fruitiness blends with salted butter, sauerkraut hazelnut and vanilla custard. Drying oak permeates throughout.
Medium length, with mulched leaves, citrus pepper, juicy barely and honeycomb.
Picked up a sample of this in the excellent cask & kiln bar in Chorlton,Manchester and was surprised to find this behind the bar to be honest. Secret Balvenie with a drop of Glenfiddich and highly recommended for lovers of both malts or a fresh and elegant Speyside in general. The Whisky Flaneur
