This whisky is from the Speyside distillery of Caperdonich, a distillery with a turbulent history. Caperdonich opened in 1897 under the imaginative name Glen Grant Number Two, after its sister distillery, and was allegedly linked by a pipe that ran whisky between the two. The distillery then closed in 1902 before reopening in 1965 under the more original name Caperdonich – then in 2002, after thirty-five years of production, the distillery was mothballed and has not reopened since. Thankfully there is still some whisky available for fantastic bottlings such as this one from ‘That Boutique-y Whisky Company’.
This label features a night time scene of misdemeanour. A ‘donich caper if you will… The perpetrators are attempting to drill into the spirit pipe between Caperdonich and its sister distillery, Glen Grant to get at the liquor-rich goodness within. Cheeky Monkeys.

A light but intense nose of stewing grapes, raisins, apple-wood ash and pear drops.
A creamy mouth-feel with rhubarb slathered in custard, followed by salt and pepper.
Pear drops, rhubarb flavoured boiled sweets, strawberry sauce, and the slightest hint of spent sparkler.
An immensely aromatic whisky which is almost overpowering at first before succulent estery flavours emerge with sweeter notes of custard and cream.
