Nose A waft of coastal peat smoke followed by stewing dried fruits, notably raisins, dates and currants. The there is a rich hint of Christmas cake chased with a little more smoke.
Palate The saline coastal quality returns hand-in-hand with Java coffee beans and parma ham.
Finish The finish is extraordinarily long with notes of fleshy stone fruit and smoked coffee beans.
Overall An outstanding whisky, the high ageing of this Caol Ila has resulted in a wonderfully complex whisky perfect for contemplating late into the night.
