Part of Diageo's Distillers Edition range comes a 2001 vintage single malt Scotch whisky from Caol Ila, which has been matured in American oak and finished in Moscatel wine casks. A limited edition release.
Nose: Wafts of peat smoke, followed by candied orange peels and a subtle nuttiness.
Palate: Sweet, malty notes, paired with warm peat that grows and grows. Cinnamon spices from the sherry cask come into play if left to breathe.
Finish: A long finish, rich with complex notes from the palate.
Overall: An inviting dram with layers and layers of flavour to discover.

I find the 12 year old very pleasing. This one however is absolutly great. The moscatel finish really takes the edge and sharpness of and some lovely sweet notes coming trough after adding a little drop of water.

At a recent meeting of our whisky club we sampled 10 different single malts that included corryveckran, Laphroaig 10 and this Caol Ila. When the tasting was over and notes compared, the caol Isla was declared best of the night. It is a very, very fine dram which is unfortunately no longer available here in Nova Scotia. If you see it, buy it!

What more can I say? Fine drop.

I had the pleasure of aqcuiring a few of these some while a go and found them rather pleasurable to drink. Although the moscatel flavor is very pronounced which might put some people off but to me is a great feature. So if you like Caol Ila and moscatel I would not pass up this execelent vintage.

Yeah I've noticed that MoM guys and some bastardz like you do a great job by overpricing the products!!!!! You should do some research before posting you brainless comment on this particular item as you can get it for as low as £52.95 on online and that's the fact!!!So that tells me that you are some kind of lying scuum bag as many other morons in whisky industry which is should be taken out and get shot!!!!!!!!!!

MoM guys you do a great job, I also work in the whisky retail industry and mistakes happen and I also get jumped up wee "know it alls" that have to pounce on any mistake made just to try and massage their own ego as they are the true masters of malt! (In their own delusional wee world!)

It isn't a lie nor is it false advertising. It was a quickly-corrected mistake. Now, find yourself something productive to do and stop being a little keyboard warrior.

We were only annoyed at the mistake we had made! Thanks for pointing out the error - which has indeed now been amended - and apologies again for any confusion. We hope you're still able to have an excellent Christmas! - The Chaps at Master of Malt
