A 28 year old Caol Ila bottled in 2012 by Adelphi, and one of 250 bottles matured in a refill bourbon hogshead.
Carbolic, mineral nose with a pronounced garage floor element.
An oily feel that really coats the mouth, but this is matched by a surprisingly light sweetness that balances the obvious peaty notes.
The sweetness lingers and there is a lot here. Lavender honey notes and more wonderful carbolic.
A sophisticated old Islay, that boats arresting complexity that transcends the smoke.
