The Sovereign range from Hunter Laing presents some wonderfully well-aged single grain whiskies - just like this one right here! This is a 40 year old single grain from the closed Cambus distillery, matured in a single refill hogshead. It was distilled in February 1975 and bottled in February 2015, long after the Cambus stills went silent. Just 114 bottles were produced.

I have been drinking whisky for 50 years. I can just about tell the difference between ordinary and special, but I have no more expertise than that. I was given a 30ml miniature of this particular whisky and, if I had been given more I would have consumed all of it! It has added another dimension to my whisky tasting experience that I would define as "very special". I doubt I will ever repeat the experience of enjoying such a special whisky, but if you ever get the chance, I can heartily recommend this particular water of life.
