Bushmills Original Bottling Note

The classic Irish blend, Bushmills Original is made up of grain whiskey matured for five years before blending with malt whiskeys. Triple distilled and very supple.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Aromatic, sweet Riesling-like quality to this. Also cut herbs and blossom.

Palate: Fruity, aromatic palate. Salty butter, all kinds of blossom, sweet vanilla cream and citrus.

Finish: A malty finish with cardamom and ginger on the tail.

Bushmills Original Reviews

smooth & easy to drink

a girlfriend introduced it to me as "whisky light" years ago & I still love it. Because it is smooth & easy to drink. Not a connoisseurs whisky but great for beginners because of the light sweet taste.

A very good cheap whiskey

If I were paying £40 a bottle, it would not get 5 stars. But at £16 for 70cl bottle, it is the smoothest and best of the cheap whiskeys and deserves 5 stars.

Let me be clear, this is an extremely light whiskey with very little flavour. But that makes it perfect for blending to produce something more complex at a much lower price than a typical single malt. Add a little mead and you have a honey flavoured malt with some sweetness. Add a shot of Ardbeg and you have a pleasant peated whiskey at an affordable price. Likewise, if you enjoy mixers, this is an excellent choice because it adds flavour to the finished drink without being overpowering it.

Cheap and Cheerful - Do not expect Too much...

This is cheap, light and mostly tasteless
Really disappointing, but at this price to be expected

Really good .

Could not resist buying this 1lt bottle for such a cheap price . Ok I have Irish blood but still that did not have me decide for it . Smooth and sweet whisky . Something to enjoy strait or on the rocks . Do not waist it with some lemonade there are other w for that . Vanilla smell and aroma as a joyful nectar to have.

Best Blended Whiskey out there!!!

Blends are oh so boring to me, but I keep this on hand. So smooth! A value for the price.

One of the best original ones.. take your time while you drink it.. enjoy it.

Mild whisky with nice texture. Enjoy it on a narrow small glass and take your time to taste it on your palate and below tongue (this is where you get that honey taste). I would prefer it against many many others.
One of the best.

Not good

I drink only Irish Whisky and tried a bottle. I do not like the taste at all. I don’t recommend it.

Many drinkers of spirits over time lose their tasting ability via increasingly going for "hard hitting" whiskey, something that really jolts, blows your head off, burns......... Bushmills is NOT of that demeanor. It is wonderfully smooth, altogether light, clearly delicate in all manner and within same, its delicacy resides for those who can appreciate such character.

Value for money

Smooth, easy drinking whisky, slightly disappointing finish. But great value for price.

Good everyday whiskey

Really good, simple blend that is very, very easy to drink. An 'everyday' favourite of mine.

Don’t throw your money away!!

Undrinkable!! The worst whiskey I have ever tasted!!

26th July 2019

Better than you think!

Tried it side by side with a Bushmills Black Bush and was surprised to find out that I prefer the the original. Not as sweet as I remembered it to be. Somewhat tangy and almost a bit salty. All in all a good easy drinking whiskey. And it makes a great Irish coffee!

Original and Best. Sliante !!!

Bushnell Original. All the taste of a great Whiskey without the burn that you get with a Malt.
Basically? Fantastic. Sliante !!

This whiskey will burn your throat if you don’t add some water but it’s a good whiskey to drink straight or mixed.

None Better

No other whiskey could possibly be this good. It is smooth and I like that it is a simple original recipe. Nobody has to mess with this at all. It is perfect just the way it is and has been for over 400 years. I even pour it over banana bread or other quick bread. Fine for Christmas pudding and fruit cake. Better than brandy. I love the flavor of this whiskey. Delicious! Yes, I drink it too!

23rd June 2018

Simply the best in easy going whiskey.

My favourite whiskey even if I like smoky complicated Scots as well. Always have one or two bottles in stock. I do not understand why Bushmills tries to beat it's own original with sub-par newcomers like Red Bush. Stick to the original.

Worth to buy

Love classic bushmills, not complex but great taste and easy to drink

10th January 2018

A 100 percent buy!

This my favorite IrishWhiskey! It is smooth and tasty with notes of smoke, peat and a gentle oak sweetness. It would be absolutely criminal to mix it with anything other than a dribble of water. Just the best, in my opinion.

Solid Whiskey

Simple, straightforward, and great.

20th October 2017

Good everyday blended

Has a definite individual taste and relatively smooth for this price. Not bad at all.

29th December 2016

Bit undecided- Good first whisky

I bought a bottle of this on a nostalgia trip as my family came from Antrim area before emigrating to New Zealand in 1875. To drink it is nice, a bit bland if I say must say so.
Iv'e got a bottle of Black Bush to try which is sitting waiting for the day I finish this (and I will), I hope it is much better, the reviews indicate it will be. Perhaps the original a good first Irish non malt whisky that will not disappoint.

Lee Champagne

I used to be a Scotch drinker, but while visiting with a friend was served Bushmills. Wow. I really like it. It is smooth, very easy to drink, and it has replaced Scotch in my liqueur cabinet. Good price to for the quality.

16th June 2016

Simple, smooth, and drinkable.

Decent, cheap whiskey that is very smooth and easy to drink. Lemony, slightly sweet, and a bit of woodiness.

2nd May 2016

Awful taste. It is utterly unpalatable, and tastes lime something you'd use to get drunk. If you want REAL quality, avoid this one.

3rd April 2016

Good Value

Have been a fan of Jameson for a good few years and tried this recently - actually prefer it and is generally a tad cheaper. A very decent blend for the price, imo. Will definitely buy again and would choose over Jameson now!

21st February 2016

What Do You Expect?

Fairly bland, but for the price it is about what one should expect.

1st August 2015

Lovely - my go to.

I like to have a bottle of Bushmills in our house pub at all times if possible. A lovely Irish whiskey - smooth, sweet, tangy, and full-flavoured...I have no idea why Jameson is even remotely popular when one could have Bushmills (or other Irish whiskies) instead. Lots of honey and citrus zest, with a creamy mouthfeel. Not complex, but delicious and dependable.

15th April 2015

Easy Drinking

Very good whiskey, well made and so easy to drink. A great place to start if you are new to Scotch or Irish.

18th February 2015

for a cheaper whiskey it is quite drinkable. however I find it very much lacks flavour. a little sweet, but I found the finish almost non existent. My favourite whiskey for this price band would be Grants by far. I would not buy this again unless I could not get hold of something else.

26th June 2014

Not bad...

I don't know why, but I get a bunch of banana in the nose on this one. As I sip, I'm wishing I had something with a bit more bite. But I do enjoy it for the money, especially since you can find it in just about every pub in town..

16th April 2014

My go-to cheap Whisky

Just about the best value in a bottle that I've found.
I'm mostly a single malt Scotch guy, but I find myself really enjoying this very smooth Irish spirit with a different palate.
I've noticed a real chocolate sense on the nose, and the back of the tongue, with a little spice on the back of the throat.
It goes down easy, and tastes mighty fine for the price.
If you're curious about it, I can't recommend jumping on this one enough.
I certainly like to keep a bottle in my cabinet at all times.

11th March 2014

Great value

For the price an excellent whiskey.

31st December 2013

If you are on a budget this one is a terrific option. Intrinsic good quality and authenticity, very approachable yet distinctive. 3 stars easily, the half a star because I am feeling generous and also because of very good memories attached to this whiskey.

21st November 2013

A decent low priced whiskey really.

Yeah, this is drinkable but not particularly impressive really. Of all the most popular whiskeys found in pubs this is probably the best choice.

Nose deserves an award

For such a cheap, entry-level whisky, the nose on this is fantastic.
Gets a bit of a bad rap next to Jameson but I'd choose this in a heartbeat.
How have they got shortbread into the nose?? Love it

22nd April 2013

One sip and the whole bottles gone

I love the way it goes down, so smooth and easy to drink.
i love the taste not to bitter not sharp.
I can easily polish a bottle off in an evening.

21st April 2013

Entry-Level, Still Great

This is a really special Whiskey. Okay, it's an entry-level blend and will never be up there with the big-boys; it can be a bit 'petroly', especially if enjoyed too quickly. But overall, I love Bushmills, the original somehow captures the quintessential Bushmills taste and is a great companion for any night, at home or in the pub. I have enjoyed this all around the world.

23rd December 2012

surprisingly good and consistent

This stuff is charming; relaxed, fruity, a bit woody yet controlled, substantial and refined...No complaints from me really..."the little whiskey that could", well, well.

12th January 2012

For mixing I think

I'm not satisfied with the smell. A bit of "fuel" or something that spoils it and makes it not worhty as sipping alone. Maybe this is to be expected from an entry level whiskey. I will definitely try their 10y singelmalt. /N
