Bunnahabhain
Scotland
Single Malt
Cruach Mhóna is gaelic for a pile of drying peat bricks and follows on from Toiteach (gaelic for smoky) as a peaty offering from Bunnahabhain. Although Islay is famed for its peat, Bunnahabhain's spirit is unpeated (this being an exception that proves the rule).
Peat and vanilla, creosote, dried herbs, harbour rope, sweet biscuits and orchard fruit.
Sweet and smoky, lemon, salt and pepper. Beneath there's oak and malt and hints of sand dune.
More sweet smoke and citrus.
I wouldn't have thought to try this one as I don't normally like Smoky (it was sent by accident in a samples pack ) as sometimes smoky peaty types can taste too medicinal , but this one is excellent sweet and smoky and a bit fruity and quite strong . I'll remember this one 10/10
Bought this whisky as I am a fan of Islay whiskies and was not disappointed. It is a little harsh before adding water however at 50% this was not unexpected. After adding water it really opened up and is a beautifully balanced peaty yet smooth whisky. Would definitely recommend!
