Bunnahabhain An Cladach

Released for the Travel Retail market, An Cladach from Bunnahabhain is a sherry-driven expression with enough spiced backing it up to balance the sweetness handsomely. The name means "The Shore" in Scots Gaelic - apt, considering Bunnahabhain's location on the north-east coast of Islay.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Almond and cherry, fruity coffee, a hint of damp oak.

Palate Raisin, more cherry, black pepper and clove. A touch of walnut.

Finish Medium length with sherried malt in charge.

Reviews for Bunnahabhain An Cladach
OK as a sipper
Unusually light for 50% ABV. Typical Bunna sherry and maritime influence, but probably not enough X factor for me. It opens up with a teaspoon of water, the sweetness of sherry becomes more apparent, but still doesn't delivery anything exceptional. Bought it for about $100 AUD at Doha airport, so the value was OK. I'll come back to it after few months to see whether anything changed.

The shore
Nice wee dram too relax with , ot unusual for a young Bunna. Enjoy the more relaxed flavoue given the alcohol level.

Disappointing
Bought this at the distillery and as I was driving I didn't have the chance for any tasting - windy single track roads and alcohol are not a great combination.
The description was very encouraging and appealed to my tastes. Being a fan of Bunnahabhain, I thought it would be an easy win. Unfortunately, there is very little going on here. It's not unpleasant, but there is nothing remarkable about it either. At £60 a litre, it's not overly pricey, but compared to what you can get at a similar price at the local competitors, it's no bargain either.
No extra marks were given for the outstanding views from the visitors centre.

Another one of their NAS lines not worth hanging out
N: Damp clothes line.
P: It does not declare, it wants to sit you and ask that you stop, consider and in some time consider your opinion.
A: A lazy palate cannot hide behind the oak spice.

Get this for your hip flask
This is a great whisky for a hip flask. Really holds its own and has the warming you want... I mean, it's great in a glass too, but still.

Quite decent.
Just trying my first dram of this whisky. It gets better with every sip. So take your time and don't bank on first impressions.

Improves as it goes along
"Face-slapping" update. 1/3 way down the bottle the youth-feel has dissipated and this whisky has become more rich and wonderful. Very good.

Face-slapping goodness.
This is something like... taking the 12 year and adding some high alcohol younger whisky in. Some of the character along with a nice slap in the face. The 50% ABV makes it work as a wake-me-up sipper with a bit of character and depth. I like it... but it isn't as mature or refined as the 12-year-old standard. Perfect for your flask.

Really impressive.
Bunnahabhain has long been my favourite malt, and An Cladachdoes does not disappoint. This is beautifully balanced, but at 50% requires more than normal addition of water. Lovely.

Smooth, Traditional Style Bunna...
Brilliant Bunnahabhain in their traditional style, but with extra depth, very fruity, slightly spicy, developing in waves of flavour with a smooth, long finish.
