Bulleit Rye is made with a mashbill of 95% rye and 5% malted barley and is produced in small batches. An absolutely stunning rye that won a Double Gold medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2013.
Big heaps of cherries and vanilla, with subtle notes of leather and tobacco.
Rather hot at first, the spices coming to the forefront. This is followed by peaches, more cherries and a little bit of orange zest.
A smoky finish, carried by cinnamon, allspice and a hint of sweeties.

I really enjoyed this rye whiskey. It`s one of the best I have tasted for the price! I think their bouron one is rather good too. It`s hard to find this whiskey on special offer as it sells so well. The rye is exceptional on this expression. I prefer it to the bouron one they do ... A classic Rye!
I love rye whiskey, and this one ticks all the boxes. I'd say the tasting notes are pretty accurate which is why last bottle of this didn't last long! A tad expensive here in the UK but worth it.
Like many drams, particularly American whiskies, fresh out of the bottle this is thin and harsh. Give it time. After breathing well and sipped at warm room temperature, it opens up, becomes soft, fragrant and sweet. There is still a lot of "heat" from the rye, particularly in the cheeks, but the tongue is kept busy and the aftertaste, while short, is pleasant. I tend to think of rye as a US alternative to pleated Islays. For the price this is perfectly reasonable and while there is little complexity, the limited range of tastes are nice and "friendly". In short, I like it. The final measure of the aftertaste actually has that "barley sugar" sweetness as Ballantine's.
This Rye Whiskey is delicious on it's own but it makes an absolutely fantastic old-fashioned. I use cane sugar syrup and orange bitters to make mine.
