Bulleit Bourbon Bottling Note

Enjoy Bulleit Bourbon like the Americans do! Previously it has been bottled at 40% abv for the UK market, but now you can get the Frontier Whiskey at 45% abv, just like they have in Kentucky. A stunning bourbon that won a Gold medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2012.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Bright with orange zest, toasted oak and vanilla.

Palate: Further orange notes, followed by some warming winter spices and a hint of tobacco leaf.

Finish: Smooth and spicy.

Overall: A new style of Bulleit (at least for us), but it's still as brilliant as ever!

Bulleit Bourbon Reviews

Worth trying

I have not previously been a bourbon drinker, finding them too sweet and preferring Island scotches, but the Bulleit (and the Rye version) changed my mind. Lots of vanilla without veering into sweetness. No idea about how it mixes, but it definitely is enjoyable neat and straight. For the price, worth trying.

8th December 2018

Great

The best bourbon ever in my opinion.
Smoother than Makers.

10th November 2018

It's my go-to for a highball

I call it pleasant- unoffensive if you will. I can and have enjoyed it over rocks just fine, thought I have much better offerings for that style. For me, I love this as a highball base. 50/50 with seltzer, ginger beer, or cola and it's a nice refreshing drink. My 3.5 star rating is actually a big compliment, and it could garner more weighting just for the price point alone. It rivals Old Forester and comes close to Four Roses yellow label for value and mix-ability. But for an extra $30 you can have a truly beautiful Bourbon to enjoy properly and life is short.

19th September 2018

Value to the ounce.

Complex, savory and too good to sip fast or down the middle. Roll every sip over the whole tongue.

5th August 2018

Good for what it costs

Good bourbon for the price.
And for the idiot criticizing the "tough guy" name, it's the distiller's last name.

22nd June 2018

Knob Creek

The Knob Creek was all sold out at my local store and this was in it's place on the shelf. Not a bad substitute...pretty smooth. Oak and citrus and it was on sale so picked it over the Maker's Mark.

20th June 2018

?

Hints of citrus, wood, vanilla, pepper. Nice. Slightly toasty, Good potential for blending.

3rd June 2018

No flavor, peppery finish

I cannot fathom all of the positive comments on this page. Bulleit bourbon has almost no flavor and no body. If you like a very strong peppery finish, it has that. It leaves a bitter aftertaste. Adding a bit of water does not reveal anything new, it only dilutes the peppery finish. I was skeptical of it, because it’s a relative newcomer and it has a stupid act-tough name. Contrary to what another reviewer says, it does not taste anything at all like Jim Beam. Jim Beam is not a great bourbon, but it’s much better than this and a lot less expensive.

1st June 2018

A staple on my bar

One of me favorites as a go to. It’s one of those that you can sip for an hour or take a quick swig. Strong on the oak/citrus with some vanilla notes, it is not one to reveal itself after time and/or water. What you see is what you get. And me? I like it.

One of life's pleasures

My favourite sip on the sofa after a hard day. Smooth as silk but with a lovely kick. I don't believe in all the arty farty tasting notes: it's just a damn good drink!

21st April 2018

Great value

I'm not the biggest bourbon fan, but like to have a bottle or two in the collection. Bulleit has become a staple now, it's not going to change your world, but it's simply a good bourbon at a decent price. Highly recommended.

8th April 2018

Tastes like Jim Beam

I do not know what has happened to Bulleit....Iv'e been drinking it for years, and it's always had vanilla,Oak, butterscotch and a gorgeous mid-tone of American cream soda....This last batch just tastes like Jim Beam; And I Hate Jim Beam.....

5th April 2018

My go to Bourbon now.

My go to Bourbon now. Been alternating between this and Cutty Sark Prohibition Edition.

12th March 2018

One of my Very Favorites

One of the very best all around Bourbons in the price range. Personally it’s in my Top 10 of all Bourbons available.

9th March 2018

Not great. Not bad

This is a sweet and simple bourbon. It's not a bad expression, but I got bored with it rather quickly. There just isn't much to explore with this, but it's very easy to drink and provides sweetness with a kick, if that's your thing.

5th February 2018

As I said a tie.

My first time. Let's discuss smooth. It will not be the last time. I must put it as a tie with my long time favourite "Jim Beam" I'm eighty on this planet and I know my bourbons. This a class act.

An amazing versatile choice

Great price value. Intense wood, smooth floral citric aroma.

26th January 2018

Great choice for the money.

Take it from a Yank. This is nice stuff with some cubes. For the price, it's difficult to beat. I'm sipping some 10 year Eagle Rare and wondering what it's got that Bulleit doesn't. Very nice!

23rd January 2018

True bourbon

Enjoying it unmodified ; straight.

13th December 2017

Smooth drinking all the way

The oranges and the spice are quite prominent as is the vanilla, but that's normal for American oak. I had the 40º ABV when it first came out a couple of years back and I'm glad they changed their mind by exporting the 45º,cause it's got a lot more bite. Overall a very nice and rewarding bourbon. A friend brought me back a bottle of Rye,so that's next on the tasting list.

12th November 2017

Decent Bourbon

This is a pretty good bourbon overall, but not as great as some others I've tried before.

9th November 2017

A sharing whiskey not a savouring whiskey.

As an Irishman who likes to try anything going within reason, this Bulleit Bourbon came under my nose one night. First thing, JD is rubbish. I'm a fervent lover of our whiskeys siding ever so mildly with Single Pot Still varieties (Green Spot and Redbreast). That being said, this is not too bad. Smells of USA but quite smooth. More sweet than spicy. Doesnt cut like a Irish blend but lacks character.

25th July 2017

Very pleasant.

I tried a bottle of Bulleit rye first, and I liked it so much that I wanted to try the bourbon.
I am not disappointed. It is a lovely whiskey, which seems to me to have a dry floral note.Perhaps this is the tobacco leaf that the Chaps discern.
It amazes me how you get absolutely opposite views on whiskies, and only goes to show how individual our tastebuds are.

8th July 2017

Pete Briquette

Excellent stuff. I prefer this to most single malts

7th July 2017

Quite good

I bought a bottle as my first legal liquor purchase, and it's going strong. Acetone, orange and a sour note on the nose. Sweet and lively spice on the tongue, with a nice rye kick going down. Lovely stuff.

15th May 2017

Hints of marmalade. Not too shabby!

So I went to the store to get a bottle of scotch. Nothing too fancy £35 was my budget. After looking at the small section scotch I stumbled upon the even smaller burbon section. I cruised pass the wild turkey and came across this. Needless to say I ended up purchase this tipple. I find this burbon quite peculiar. The best way I can describe it is that if you take away the stereotypical burbon flavor, you will find a kind of vintage marmalade flavor. So overall fairly tasty, hints of molasses and orange, a little on the grainy side (if I'm honest).

28th April 2017

Better and better as we go

Bought this two weeks ago. Took my first pour the same evening. Was not impressed. Tried another a few days later. A bit more happy with the nose, taste and finish. Had some friends over for dinner last Saturday. Had this as an aperitif. One of my friends said it was excellent. I still was not convinced. Tonight, Friday, just six days later, I poured this bourbon when i got home from work late in the evening. Now I have to say that I really like this whiskey. I now am sad as I am about to emptying the bottle. Definitely will buy another soon. What a wonderful world there is of whiskies. Cheers. Oh, and I will also try the Bulleit Rye. Can't wait.

John

17th March 2017

Not the best

Not the best bourbon not much flavour and what flavour there is is not good or smooth. Paid twenty pounds and would not pay anymore than that. I'm going to stick to Jim beam devils cut which is way superior and smoother in taste and quality and is cheaper

28th February 2017

Spicy Bourbon

I'm normally a single malt drinker, but I like my blended whiskeys as well.
Bought this bottle due to the fact that I have tried many different whiskeys of late, both blended and single malts and I was looking for something that changed things up a bit.

Taste whys it's quite rough. Tried it with both water and ice, but it remains sharp, young. You can really taste the Rye, as the spicy notes is heavily present. It's not anything like my daily drinks but nice all the same.

I'm not sure bourbon really is for me. Personally I prefer the cleaner and more sophisticated flavor of my single malts, especially when the price is pretty much the same, at least here in Sweden.

Tomas, Sweden.

Smooth baby

I am a whiskey girl... and for the price, it suits my palette very well. Smooth, - a tad of spice and saweetttttt

Martin McGhee

Excellent drink with a great taste reminds me of my college days well recommended

11th December 2016

Great budget Bourbon

If you like vanilla citrus bomb of a bourbon, at a very good price. This whiskey has you covered.

Nose is slight acetone. Arrival is full of flavour, sweet and sour, with a decent bite as it develops. Ending in a very pleasant albeit short finish.

I bought a bottle for a third of the price of my favourite, Blanton's Gold, but not a third of the flavour. If you're short on cash but still want a good bourbon you cant go wrong.

9th December 2016

My third fav now

Enjoyable and tastey. My list now goes Jd Single Barrel, Woodford reserve and now Bulleit has replaced 1792.

4th December 2016

Do yourself a favor and buy some.

I haven't delved much into bourbon(yet) as I am normally a scotch drinker, but this stuff is an absolute steal for the price. I would pay twice what I pay for it gladly. Like a previous review says, this is light years ahead of any Jack Daniels, and at only a few dollars more a bottle (where I live). This is a spirit my cabinet will never be without.

16th October 2016

An honest well priced bourbon

Light years ahead of any Jack Daniels I have tasted. Nice warming feeling with plenty of taste!

9th August 2016

Sweet, smooth and versatile

Nuff said.

27th July 2016

Superb

Whiskey doesn't get much better than this. Balanced sweetness. A whiskey man's whiskey.

23rd July 2016

good

very nice but so on the expensive side i dont think it should even reach £20

17th July 2016

Pleasant

Nose: butterscotch
Palate: oaky butter, raw vanilla pod
Quite pleasant, creamy, not complicated. A nice introduction to bourbon.

30th May 2016

Love this stuff!

So I have to be honest. I gave up on whiskey after only having one type (i know i'm a horrible person) which was Jack Daniels. I had Jack and I absolutely hated it I thought it was far too bitter and it tasted as though someone had shoved wet woodchips down my throat. Well we had a Firefly party last night at our local bar (Firefly is a western tv show) and I saw this Frontier whiskey sitting on the bar. Well I said what the hell it's just for the party and I tried some on the rocks. Lets just say I fell in love and found my whiskey because this stuff is amazing. It's got a nice bite to it but it doesn't burn in fact it's quite smooth. It is very warming and it's got so many pleasant undertones in flavors. I 100% recommend this stuff as it's amazing.

30th April 2016

Pg

Nice tipple, very warming, like most bourbons it gets better each sip, recommend to anyone

awesome

Great wee drink

Iv only sampled a few different bourbons but this one stands out. A lovely drink.

@"New to Bourbon -- This Is Awesome!"

Don't stop your Bourbon journey at Bulleit. It's fine, but there are better bourbons. I recommend you try Four Roses Single Barrel next. And if you want to get adventurous, try rye. I recommend Rittenhouse 100 Proof. In American whiskey, rye is to bourbon what Islay is to Speyside.

8th February 2016

New to Bourbon - This is Awesome!

I am no Bourbon aficionado, by any means. I tried Bulleit at the local bar and was simply blown away and immediately bought a bottle for home. The different elements of the taste are so complex, I can't begin to describe it all. It's fantastic over ice and has a drink-ability that's almost dangerous. This will always be on my shelf. JD is good but this is far more interesting - the complexity of the flavors and how they fit well together is quite impressive. I think I "get" bourbon now...

5th February 2016

Best I've tasted in a long time

Delicious, smooth. Not too firey, vanilla and blackcurrant, easy to drink straight. Much better than JD, Buffalo Trace, Wild Turkey, Maker's Mark... my new favourite.

23rd January 2016

Mmmm Good!

Sweet, easy drinking, well priced. Does it get any better?

9th January 2016

This is actually pretty good

I am not a bourbon man but I do have my usual Jack Daniels on the rocks and am afraid of touching anything other than JD, but I gave this one a try based on peoples reviews and actually had this one straight & well what can I say, its much better than I expected and went down smooth. For what it is and its price I will not complain against something that is actually very good!

2nd January 2016

Dependable

Like the reviewer below said, Bulleit is a good 'utility' bourbon along the lines of Buffalo Trace, Wild Turkey etc It's not going to blow you away but it's good enough to make a convert of you if you're new to bourbon. And if you're looking for a regular 'turn to' or need a good quality/inexpensive bourbon as a basis for cocktails it's totally solid.

18th December 2015

Great utility Bourbon

I really do like Bulleit Bourbon, mainly because of it's high rye content (I do love my rye whiskeys). It's reasonably priced and very good value for money, and makes a great Old Fashioned. Obviously it's no W L Weller, Bookers or Pappy, but for a utility Bourbon I think it's great. Buffalo Trace is possibly my favourite utility Bourbon, but I love the peppery start (it's that rye again) and smooth finish of the Bulleit.

12th December 2015

Best so far

Tried this bourbon for the first time and was very pleased with it. Incredibly smooth (perilously so in fact) despite the 45% proof with a lovely spicy vanilla finish. I'm usually a malt whisky drinker but have an occasional bourbon like Woodford or Buffalo Trace or Jim Beam but this is the best I've tried thus far. I have already recommended it to friends.

7th December 2015

Nice one

Very smooth, nice taste, easy to drink ... simply good Bourbon.
Recommended.

2nd December 2015

Really good

Good quality bourbon. Smooth and spicy, feel some caramelized orange. Kind of a long finish. I like it very much 👌

16th November 2015

fucking great!

I thought I liked JD until I found this little beauty

7th November 2015

Very good

Very smooth, nice taste, easy to drink (too easy 😀), high quality burbon,...

22nd September 2015

Smart stuff

Smooth and full of hints of orange peel and luscious vanilla oak notes. The finish lingers on forever. Class act.

16th August 2015

Incredible

Absolutely incredible. Very smooth, with lots of vanilla and fruit; quite sweet. So easy to drink, you'll find the bottle empty in no time. Will buy again... and again.

8th July 2015

Probably the best Bourbon for my money.

Its unbelievable how smooth this is.Iyou can drink it neat at room temperature almost like red wine.

10th June 2015

great

This is one hell of a peculiar yet fantastic bourbon! In many ways typical - oak, leather, vanilla, sweetish, viscuous texture - yet crisp, crunchy, citrussy and with a stunning, pronounced cherrycola finale that burns without scalding, if you get my drift...wow.

17th March 2015

TheMymic

Nose. Big, spicy rye, orange zest, toasted oak, wood smoke, dried banana, cream custard. candied almonds, Brazil nut, cinnamon, bubblegum.
Taste, again rye spice, bitter peel, caramel, dry oak, apples, custard, pastry, brazil nut, tastes much the same as it smells.
Finnish. earthy and nutty

Excellent price, high quality. I'd put this bourbon at 6-8 years old. The oak is there but it's not heavy tannins as some older bourbons can be.

27th October 2014

Fantastic

I prefer to drink it neat, but even when mixed this is one of the best bourbon's I have ever had bar none. I detect a subtle caramel/toffee note at the finish which gives it a very unique flavor.

4th August 2014

Travis M. Holley Esq.

Best taken straight at room temperature, no ice, with a touch of water on the side.

5th July 2014

best

strong note of spice

15th February 2014

Smooth and easy going

I was first presented with Bulleit as an alternative to Jack Daniels whilst attending a music festival several years ago. At the time, it was served with ice, coke and lime - a combination I wasn't sure about at first, but having tasted it, one I was firmly converted to. This is a bourbon for easy drinking, sipping with friends and enjoying. It'll suit a cold night in as much as it'll work with a BBQ on a sunny afternoon - can't recommend it highly enough.
