Enjoy Bulleit Bourbon like the Americans do! Previously it has been bottled at 40% ABV for the UK market, but now you can get the Frontier Whiskey at 45% ABV, just like they have in Kentucky. A stunning whiskey that won a Gold medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2012.
Give this a go in a smashing Mint Julep cocktail following the recipe below!
60ml Bulleit Bourbon
20ml Simple syrup (1 part sugar to 1 part water)
8-10 mint leaves, and three mint sprigs.
Pack a julep cup with crushed ice so it can start getting nice and cold. In a mixing glass, combine the bourbon, syrup, and mint leaves. Use a muddler to lightly bruise the leaves in the glass to release their flavour, then strain the contents into your julep cup. Garnish with three nice big sprigs of mint, (give them a little pat first, to release their minty aromas!) – then stick a straw in close by.
Bright with orange zest, toasted oak and vanilla.
Further orange notes, followed by some warming winter spices and a hint of tobacco leaf.
Smooth and spicy.

I’ll admit that I wasn’t a huge fan of Bulleit when I first tried it. It’s got some rich flavor but I thought it was a bit overbearing and burned my mouth a bit. But I went to an affair where it was the only whiskey available and it wasn’t as harsh as I remembered. Coincidentally I was given a small bottle about a week or two later and after having a bit more, it’s growing on me. Nose: Citrus and spice (almost clove like or ginger) Palate: Orange and spice, rich (almost as if you can feel the dark amber color) Finish: Very spicy, decent amount of burn
Bulleit Bourbon. I also noticed a changed in flavor profile, starting last fall 2018 - to present. Up front banana, light body almost medicinal. Still a nice peppery finish. This just isn't the same bourbon I've been enjoying for... well, a long time. It's still good but no longer my style. Thanks for the ride Bulleit-
Used to be my favorite, but... alas... its changed. Instead of the accustomed spicey kick, my last bottle tasted like plain ol, mild, unexciting Jim Beam. Bummer, it doesnt seem that Bulleit survived the distillery change intact.
i first tried the 10 year old and was spoiled, a good runner up was woodford reserve, then i tried the regular and thought it was kinda harsh, and also the rye was sweet, which made me realize after this second tasting ive always liked the rye taste like in jim beam, but you can surely taste it in this....not too sweet like the rye..but now i know the difference rye and corn...”sing a song of six pence, a pocket full of rye”...
