Nose: Spicy and sweet with caramel, creamy toffee eclairs, hints of cinnamon, rum spice and cereal sweetness.
Palate: Brown sugar, toffee apple, sweet oak, custard, oily espresso beans, a touch of chocolate-covered raisins and toasty wood.
Finish: Good length with sweet spices, cinnamon gum and toffee.

Looking at the reviews makes me think I got a dud bottle. This is like a little kiddies drink but at a price no kid could afford. All I got was a massive burst of sweetness. The sweetest bourbon, or for that matter any drink I've ever had. Then it's like water, goes down easy & the taste is instantly gone. Don't know if I'd ever spend that much on this ever again but the bottle is a good addition to my collection anyway.

I'd like to give an update. We put bitters in it. And it tasted much better.

Spicy. Although, everything is spicy. We appreciate the buffalo and the bottle history. When you put a whiskey ice ball in it, it does taste a little watery. Most bourbons taste like honey on my lips, but this one doesn't. What do other reviewers think of their "unparalleled reputation"? I don't feel transported to the Great Buffalo Trace -- I wish I felt like I was on the trail, sipping my bourbon. But, all around, this is pretty good.
...to my "Knock-out" review posted below. This stuff is simply amazing.

Can this stuff 'crash' in the bottle?! Noting other remarks here about quality control issues and references to ethanol, I may have a dodgy example (from a large chain @ £20). It comes in a rather arty, decorative bottle with a cork stopper -this endears it to me right away. I'm totally with the other reviewers on complexities and flavours, up to the point where it slides off the palate, maybe with a seriously dark chocolate swoosh towards the end, but then...oof! A massive parting shot of something that could be rocket fuel, toilet cleaner or paint-stripper? Dunno, 'cause I've never imbibed these delicacies. What was that about??!Back to MM next time; no stars given as I honestly cannot rate what I don't understand...it may be perfect!

This can hold its ground against every other small batch bourbon I've ever tasted. A vanilla lavender nose, toffee and corn rich palate, and a spicy rye finish. Evan at 80 proof this bourbon is a winner.

In comparrising with some higher proof bourbons this one lacks on taste. Its not crap bourbon but really neads more strenght.

I have been into bourbon for a few years now, preferring it neat with no ice and I started with this as I had seen favourable reviews. Since then I have tried many other bourbons including wood ford reserve which many rave about but for me this is head and shoulders above the rest.

I enjoyed a bottle of Buffalo Trace at a bed & breakfast get away recently. I much liked it. I take mine with just a splash of water, generally, and this seemed to open up the taste. By the way, Buffalo Trace was one of the distilleries my sister and some friends visited back in the summer on our 4 day Harley ride of the Bourbon Trail. I strongly recommend this tour to any serious whisky drinker. It's much fun and you learn a whole lot...and sample a lot.

Got my 1st bottle 2 days ago. A friend at work mentioned your brand knowing I have a taste for good bourbon. I really do enjoy it's spice and bourbon combination. I prefer my whiskey neat to enjoy it as it is. I and truly enjoy it flavor.Cheers!

I think it is a real good bourbon for the price it has a ton of vanilla caramel and spice notes but it is very thin and lacks the complexity of a blantons . it's tollay on par with Makers Mark so you won't be disappointed of your just drinking with a friend or using it as a mixer

Bring back the 45% Version for the International market. This stuff is a shadow of its former self at 40%! A real shame they've changed it.
25th November 2014
Lots of varied aromas and flavors greet you and command your attention. Almond and sour fruits on the nose along with a palate brimming over with hazelnuts, vanilla, cinnamon, butterscotch. Add a drop of water to make the flavors explode. This is an outstanding bourbon. Not very expensive either, considering how phenomenally tasty it is. $24.95 for 750mL in Illinois, USA. (The bottle I have is 45% ABV, not sure if exported bottles are lower?)

A bottle that's been catching my eye for a while but I've been too caught up with scotch! This is a very nice bourbon and superb for the under 50$ CAD price! This sits in the same range as woodford, and ridgemont 1792 for me, and makes makers mark taste like jim beam.
4th November 2014
I've been buying and enjoying Trace since the 45% ABV days. Like a lot of people I continued to enjoy it after they diluted it to 40%. It was still a decent drink on the rocks or in mixers. But in the last year (2013-2014) the quality has taken a nose dive. Gone is the complexity, gone is the smoothness. Its still the best you can get for £20 in the UK supermarkets but make no mistake - this is now a shadow of its former self. I'm amused to find myself genuinely angry about that! Why didn't they just raise the damn prices instead of tearing the soul out of what was a fantastic class leading straight Bourbon?

was looking for a descent whiskey to make Manhattans, It came recommended at a duty free store in Michigan after getting used to Makers Mark as the base for the mix drink. I really enjoyed it and bought a bottle of Makers Mark after. to be honest, I am no expert by any means but I think I am going to go back to the Buffalo Trace because I found it tasted better even as a sipping whiskey.

A pleasant Bourbon, but a bit simple and lacking in depth compared to Woodford Reserve and Eagle Rare. A reasonable budget bourbon however and has a pleasant flavour.

Honestly I prefer this to the 45% version I had a few times over the last couple of years. Don't go nuts with the ice: 3 cubes max. 2-3 fingers. The nose hits you even off the table, its wonderfully rich and toffee/caramel. The taste is smooth, as heck. As all heck. Lovely caramelized white oak sugars, toffee fudge and banana. A delicious finish that doesn't linger too long. You never get ethanol at any point from nose to gut. Its that good! This just blows away anything else at the price point. Jack Daniels wished it tastes this great. Beam White can't compete either. There is no better Bourbon for sale in the UK @ £20 or less. Wonderful stuff! I wish the supermarkets stocked more of the top class bourbons from this distillery of which, google assures me, there are many!

I thought that Audrey Hollander was the Kentuckian that I would most like to spend the night with, until I sampled the "TRACE" !!!!!!!
30th June 2014
Probably one off the best bourbons iv tasted so far top quality
29th June 2014
nose is mint caramel, wood char, sweet and syrupy taste minty, cloves sugar, very very watery finish sweet and short. better than beam or JD but not worth repeat buys if you're expanding your palate and emptying your pockets.
6th June 2014
выпил уже 3 бутылки этого бурбона! мой любимый))) жаль что они уменьшили крепость до 40%. но у нас пока только 45% (90 proof) :)))
2nd May 2014
I've never gone back having had a drop of this, lovely taste and not too harsh for the average whiskey drinker. Lovely stuff!
20th February 2014
Actually is not bad. I am scotch drinker but the guy from my local liquor store ask me to try this because I love sherry scotch like The Macallan. I was really impress how smooth this bourbon. I also bought The 1792 Ridgemont Reserve Bourbon and man it's pretty amazing. I have two Bourbon in my collection of Scotch but I really have to say that I'M impressed.
6th February 2014
This was my first bourbon and there's something about it that I can't quite put my finger on. I like it, I keep refilling my glass and I'm in love with the finish. The nose is Vanilla, sugar paper and fresh toffee. The palate has a sweet but waxy quality to it like beeswax drenched in honey and the finish is thoroughly satisfying. Can't say whether I'll be buying another bottle yet, I have a few more to try but it's definitely worth a punt in my opinion.

Good price good taste.
22nd January 2014
Saw in supermarket and thought I'd try something different. Really nice sipping whiskey but didn't feel that it mixed well with diet coke
17th January 2014
I can tell this of good quality, but there was something about it that just didn't work with me. Not sure what it was. Did make a nice Manhattan though.

I'm a fan of all whisky and it's taken me a while to move into the realms of bourbon, but I must say, I wish I had earlier. This is delightful, if anyone hasn't tried bourbon yet, possibly put off by weak versions they've tried in the past. I'd strongly suggest this. It's very similar to green bottle. As a whisky fan, buffalo trace has brought that excitement back! I can't wait to delve a little deeper into American whiskey. It's smooth, full of flavour, not as complexed as Scottish malt but not to be overlooked. At the price, you could do a hang of a lot worse.
17th October 2013
It's an ok bourbon that's all. After tasting Makers Mark Straight Bourbon this is just a faint memory to the full potential of a bourbon.
13th October 2013
I came to Buffalo Trace at a tasting and my local hostelry had a bottle brought in. It didn't last long enough. A new Manager and a new bottle. It's going the same way as the first. BT invites one to it's warm, encompasing world. It doesn't treat you ill. Smooth, not over powering but still full bodied. A true classic.
5th October 2013
Sweet, warm, and inviting mix of dried-fruit and grain flavors. Mixes well, tastes great neat. Best £20 you'll ever spend on a bottle of booze.
11th August 2013
Had a bottle bought for me for my birthday last Thursday (1st).I was amazed how well this tasted, I would buy this again in a heartbeat great bourbon.
6th August 2013
Very easy bourbon with style. Personally prefer a little more depth and flavour, but it is defnitely not bad. Easy recommendation if getting to know with better bourbons.

I never liked whiskey untill a friend had me try buffalo trace

Warm spice in the nose; corn, vanilla and toasted caramel with nuts on the palate. Finish dry from the rye with dare I say it, a little orange oil?!.Unblievable bourbon for your buck or sterling.
Nose - Black treacle, caramel, pine, cream custard, warm toffee pudding, molasses, all things good and sticky and sweet.Taste - Vanilla ice cream, warm oak, bread and butter pudding, black treacle. The nose is more busy than the taste but this is a good drop, any seasoned scotch drinker can taste and enjoy the quality here.

They are flogging this at£18 per bottle this christmas.
23rd December 2012
Vanilla and wood, marvelous on the most and absolutely delicious on the palate. An all around awesome whiskey and one of the best price points, especially stateside. I could drink this everyday and never get bored. Quality stuff .
26th November 2012
I supposed to have 45% whiskey, but they have diluted this. I fear worst, Bland and watery taste, but this was something else! Smooth and sweet, similar chocolatey aroma like Eagle rare 10yo, but not so sweet. There's also cherry and some rye making complexity and long finish. This is best for the price, many times better than Jim Beam Black. I think this is better than Eagle rare. In fact I suppose this is best bourbon I have ever tasted. (Beam black, maker's, 4 roses small batch, eagle, knob, that's my list).

Number 1 wot. This bourbon is great
