The new edition of the classic Kentucky straight bourbon, Buffalo Trace. A great whiskey, with oodles of vanilla, barrel char and spicy complexity.
Nose: Spicy and sweet with caramel, creamy toffee eclairs, hints of cinnamon, rum spice and cereal sweetness.
Palate: Brown sugar, toffee apple, sweet oak, custard, oily espresso beans, a touch of chocolate-covered raisins and toasty wood.
Finish: Good length with sweet spices, cinnamon gum and toffee.

Second review of Buffalo Trace. I am a believer. This is, so far, my favorite every day whisky. If I never drank any other whisky for the rest of my life, I would be okay with that. My best description of this spirit is, " the workhorse of American made Bourbons." This is an everyday drinkable Bourbon that never tire's the palette.Solidly dependable, always satisfying, I drink this on an everyday basis. One or two drams at bedtime and have not ever been disappointed. For the around 25.00 price tag, you cannot beat this as an American classic Bourbon. As stated in my first review, serve this to your closest friends and they will never feel slighted in even the smallest degree.
I am relatively new to whisky in general. I have avoided whisky in general since my youth, having had some bad experiences whilst hugging the porcelain god of drink. Having recently retired, though, I have found that I have a whole new appreciation for the spirit and I have begun to make world class whisky my new hobby. Having said that up front I must say that I find Bourbon to be my go to for an everyday drink at the end of a long day. Fine Irish single malt and a complex Scotch are reserved( for me at least) for good friends, relatives ,and special occasions. Unless, of course it is an occasional dram of Johnny Walker Red. For some reason I cannot define I just like that one, anytime. All that aside, this is after all supposed to be my opinion of Buffalo Trace Bourbon, Let me just say that I would serve this to a guest without reservation, knowing that whilst simple in it's flavors and subtleties, I cannot imagine that anyone would feel slighted that you didn't serve them your Top Shelf.

Has the nicest aftertaste of similar bourbons, really enjoying it!
18th January 2017
Straight bourbon !!!!!!! smoothe like water wtf ?????
18th December 2016
Very smooth on its own good as a mixer
8th December 2016
love the excellent flavor!
29th November 2016
Great value with oodles of delicious caramel flavour. A bit of spice balances this beauty perfectly.
24th November 2016
I like aged scotch as much as anyone, but in terms of a solid, workmanlike whiskey that you can turn to after a crap day at work, this works well. This is not to say that this is average - it's actually a very good bourbon. You can't get much better in terms of value for money. The closest to this is probably Bulleit, which tends to be slightly more expensive but still a great drink. Even better when one of these two is on offer, because then it's a real bargain!

BUFFALO TRACE NAS 45% ABV 9/4/16Fresh open Bottle. I let it sit in the glass for about 2 hrs. as I showered, did dishes etc. Let it open up.COLOR: Deep Amber Many Legs running ModeratelyNOSE: Very Sweet Caramel? Vanilla with slight hints of Wood Char.PALETTE: Sweet Corn Arrival with Pleasant Silky Mouth Feel, Some Alcohol Burn; Pepper mixes with the Sweetness; in addition to a Sweet tinted Wood SmokeFINISH: Some Alcohol Burn going Down but Drying with Notes of CharThis is my Second Exploration of BUFFALO TRACE and there is a Very Pleasant Rich Sweet Note that hits my nose after opening the Bottle and it Continues in the Glass. I call it Sweet Caramel, but it is more then that. It has a candy character. The alcohol Burn is moderately disturbing yet, I Love the Mouth Feel and the complexity that arises as I swirl it around in my mouth. The Wood Smoke is especially pleasing and the Char notes in the Finish are a Very Nice Touch.
5th September 2016
Im not a regular bourbon drinker but I do like this, it needs to be watered down or drunk with ice but its got wonderfully complex flavour. It's a bit rough as one expects of American Whiskey but enjoyable all the same.
20th July 2016
As far as value bourbons go it's a good place to start but lacks the depth and flavour of the 90 proof version.
13th July 2016
I usually drink single malted Scotch, and I love Laphroaig with its smoky peat taste, but if you want something that comes on sweet with a nice long spicy finish get this bourbon. For the price there is nothing comparable, it tastes just like the old South, in fact I'm sure old Andrew Jackson would drink this, it is everything Kentucky bourbon is meant to be: sweet, spicy and complex. At this price you won't find a better bourbon, or a better bourbon neat for daily use. Why pay more? Here's what you get- sweet corn syrup and vanilla nose, a sweet oak and corn palate, then a great long spicy finish that is a long drive through the bluegrass state. I gotta tell you, try other bourbons, you'll come back to this one!
12th July 2016
Very smooth and was enjoyable
2nd July 2016
I agree with the last review, the recent production is definitely inferior to prior batches. I hope this gets corrected as I was absolutely hooked until now.
22nd June 2016
I've enjoyed 4 bottles of this stuff over the last 6 months and the last bottle I purchased was a unpleasant surprise. This was my go to hooch with a very good sale price, up until the last batch which is either a mistake with the quality control department or a sign of things to come. I am gonna give this stuff a rest until Ive searched a bit more because this really hurt my feelings and taste buds and throat and stomach!! Seriously this stuff tastes like it has been cut with rubbing alcohol and battery acid compared to the first 4 bottles I had. Also it gives me a nasty hangover now, which the other 4 never did. Hate to give a bad review but I recommended this stuff so much that I have to make amends for this embarrassment that friends might purchase. Hopefully they get it together. Keep bourbon my friends!
9th June 2016
This not the best Whiskey I have ever tasted but pound for Pound (£20) it is the best value. At £20 you usually get an average blended Scotch. The best being Famous Grouse. This smashes it out of the park for complex flavours, slightly rough at first, but the after taste has a smooth and sweet flavour. It is pleasing on the nose as well as the tongue and stomach. A GREAT bourbon whisky and well worth £20. Well done. Years better than similar brands at that price.
1st June 2016
Quality drink for a reasonable price, great flavours, spicy, honey, fruitcake, very, very nice drink indeed.
24th May 2016
Balanced, smooth, and affordable. Much prefer to WT 101, as well as more pricey alternatives
23rd May 2016
Best whiskey for the price. Layers of unfolding flavors. Better than gentleman jack, bullet bourbon, similar to 4 roses small batch which is more $
I agree with Buffalo wiz !!!!!!!!!!!!!
9th May 2016
My Dad brought a bottle this over the other night for us to try and he has not been invited back since. First sip is usually a little harsh no matter what you are drinking and by the second sip your palette usually adjusts but you can sip this Buffalo wiz all night and it continues to rip your head off. Just terrible the worst we have ever tried wound up pouring it down the drain.
This is a bourbon with s great personality and smoothness. Great palate
8th April 2016
I'm pretty surprised how good this bourbon is for the low price tag. Super smooth!
3rd April 2016
This is the bourbon workhorse #1 and the lowest grade you should bother drinking. It works wonders in most whiskey cocktails but you may want to consider a more premium bourbon for straight sipping as this one quickly could grow old on your palate.
25th March 2016
This bourbon sets the bar high. Cheap yet out of its league good!
15th March 2016
Terrific whisky. My first bourbon after fancying trying one instead of adding another scotch to my cabinet. I love the almost Rioja vanilla & oaky nose and the taste is surprisingly not too sweet and the sherried finish is great.
12th March 2016
28th February 2016
Excellent whiskey at a decent price. Very smooth and great flavour
20th February 2016
I have always drank JD, Buffalo trace blows it out of the water, a fantastic tipple very smooth finish, enjoy.
14th February 2016
I think this is a very good bourbon one of my all time favourites as is all the bourbon produced at the Buffalo Trace Distillry
3rd February 2016
As a long-term malt whisky drinker from Scotland I used to quite wrongly brush Bourbon to the side as cheap grain. I have tried my first real bourbon tonight (beforehand I had only ever tried Jack Daniel's old No. 7 which isn't bourbon, and it is terrible) and I am truly enjoying it. It smells like vanilla, oak, cream, maybe a bit of chocolate and definitely Cherry Cola. It tastes creamy, very slightly spicy, a bit nippy on the finish (but I am willing to look past that small infraction for the price). It could be described as slightly 'sizzly' on the tongue and it is just a really tasty drink. I would recommend this for a long-term Scotch whisky drinker who wants a new experience. Note: This whisky (and every spirit in my opinion) absolutely must be drank from a Glencairn Glass, it is the glass that allows people to get good tasting notes by funnelling the fumes from the spirit. They are only £4.50 or something on this sight (or £20 for 6 I think), if you are buying a bottle of whisky or whiskey, just bite the bullet and invest in one of these glasses, it improves the flavour and the overall experience by at least ten times.
21st January 2016
I don't know for some reason, this bourbon dehydrates me and makes me thirsty with dry lips. I gave it a good try. But it is not full bodied tasting at all. Totally light in color and just not good. I was disappointed especially since this was recommended to me. Sad to say I will not buy any other Buffalo Trace bourbon.
19th January 2016
I enjoyed this going on my second bottle
Price point versus quality is unbelievable. I would highly recommend for those looking for a great bourbon that doesn't break the bank.
31st December 2015
A lot of people act as if the price range limits how good a bourbon can be; definitely not the case. I've had bourbon of most any price range, and this one is excellent against any of them.
Goes great with ice
28th December 2015
For the money this is truly an excellent bourbon! Soft, sweet and delicious
23rd December 2015
You'll not find a bourbon that does such a phenomenal job of balancing everything that bourbon should be. Starts out sweet, moves to spicy, then finishes with complex charred oak. Love it. I've tried many Bourbons over the years but I keep coming back to this one. It doesn't hurt that is a damn good price.
2nd December 2015
So far, I haven't found another whiskey that tastes anywhere near as good as Buffalo Trace for the price. I like it better than Basil Hayden or Woodford's. A superior bourbon at a great price.
27th October 2015
In a proper whiskey tasting glass neat. Tastes and smells amazing.
25th October 2015
This is the second bottle of BT that I have purchased thinking the first was a fluke, considering all the 4 and 5 star ratings this has gotten. Bottom line life is too short to be drinking mediocre stuff.Spend a couple more bucks and get Eagle Rare or Knob Creek.
8th September 2015
Its got more zing than others in the price range. Good mid range whiskey. Will for sure get again.
26th June 2015
I'm not a big fan of whiskey or bourbon, but when I moved into my new house, my landlord left a bottle of Buffalo Trace bourbon as a housewarming gift. Not having any mixers available, and since I do not like any kind of drink neat, I tried it on the rocks. It was wonderful! The ice diluted it enough so that it wasn't harsh going down, and it had a great sweet flavor. This is the one bourbon I would definitely buy again.
20th June 2015
stay home and drink sherry, losers
4th June 2015
Can appreciate that this is low end, cheap stuff but the nose/palate profile described on this site made it sound like the perfect bourbon for me, ticking all my boxes. However, to taste this either neat, iced or even with coke I failed to enjoy it at all. I'm no expert (of course) but it has an unpleasant chemically bitterness, as if someone has washed the glass with fairy liquid and not rinsed it out properly. I honestly enjoy plain old Jack Daniels over this for £20.
17th May 2015
At 40% don't bother. At 45% It is a gem.
2nd May 2015
buff trace is not spicy. it is quite sharp, very malted in character, but not spicy.
25th April 2015
Looking at the reviews makes me think I got a dud bottle. This is like a little kiddies drink but at a price no kid could afford. All I got was a massive burst of sweetness. The sweetest bourbon, or for that matter any drink I've ever had. Then it's like water, goes down easy & the taste is instantly gone. Don't know if I'd ever spend that much on this ever again but the bottle is a good addition to my collection anyway.
13th April 2015
I'd like to give an update. We put bitters in it. And it tasted much better.
20th March 2015
Spicy. Although, everything is spicy. We appreciate the buffalo and the bottle history. When you put a whiskey ice ball in it, it does taste a little watery. Most bourbons taste like honey on my lips, but this one doesn't. What do other reviewers think of their "unparalleled reputation"? I don't feel transported to the Great Buffalo Trace -- I wish I felt like I was on the trail, sipping my bourbon. But, all around, this is pretty good.
...to my "Knock-out" review posted below. This stuff is simply amazing.
18th March 2015
Can this stuff 'crash' in the bottle?! Noting other remarks here about quality control issues and references to ethanol, I may have a dodgy example (from a large chain @ £20). It comes in a rather arty, decorative bottle with a cork stopper -this endears it to me right away. I'm totally with the other reviewers on complexities and flavours, up to the point where it slides off the palate, maybe with a seriously dark chocolate swoosh towards the end, but then...oof! A massive parting shot of something that could be rocket fuel, toilet cleaner or paint-stripper? Dunno, 'cause I've never imbibed these delicacies. What was that about??!Back to MM next time; no stars given as I honestly cannot rate what I don't understand...it may be perfect!
25th February 2015
This can hold its ground against every other small batch bourbon I've ever tasted. A vanilla lavender nose, toffee and corn rich palate, and a spicy rye finish. Evan at 80 proof this bourbon is a winner.
18th January 2015
In comparrising with some higher proof bourbons this one lacks on taste. Its not crap bourbon but really neads more strenght.
10th January 2015
I have been into bourbon for a few years now, preferring it neat with no ice and I started with this as I had seen favourable reviews. Since then I have tried many other bourbons including wood ford reserve which many rave about but for me this is head and shoulders above the rest.
17th December 2014
I enjoyed a bottle of Buffalo Trace at a bed & breakfast get away recently. I much liked it. I take mine with just a splash of water, generally, and this seemed to open up the taste. By the way, Buffalo Trace was one of the distilleries my sister and some friends visited back in the summer on our 4 day Harley ride of the Bourbon Trail. I strongly recommend this tour to any serious whisky drinker. It's much fun and you learn a whole lot...and sample a lot.
12th December 2014
Got my 1st bottle 2 days ago. A friend at work mentioned your brand knowing I have a taste for good bourbon. I really do enjoy it's spice and bourbon combination. I prefer my whiskey neat to enjoy it as it is. I and truly enjoy it flavor.Cheers!
8th December 2014
I think it is a real good bourbon for the price it has a ton of vanilla caramel and spice notes but it is very thin and lacks the complexity of a blantons . it's tollay on par with Makers Mark so you won't be disappointed of your just drinking with a friend or using it as a mixer
4th December 2014
Bring back the 45% Version for the International market. This stuff is a shadow of its former self at 40%! A real shame they've changed it.
25th November 2014
Lots of varied aromas and flavors greet you and command your attention. Almond and sour fruits on the nose along with a palate brimming over with hazelnuts, vanilla, cinnamon, butterscotch. Add a drop of water to make the flavors explode. This is an outstanding bourbon. Not very expensive either, considering how phenomenally tasty it is. $24.95 for 750mL in Illinois, USA. (The bottle I have is 45% ABV, not sure if exported bottles are lower?)
24th November 2014
A bottle that's been catching my eye for a while but I've been too caught up with scotch! This is a very nice bourbon and superb for the under 50$ CAD price! This sits in the same range as woodford, and ridgemont 1792 for me, and makes makers mark taste like jim beam.
4th November 2014
I've been buying and enjoying Trace since the 45% ABV days. Like a lot of people I continued to enjoy it after they diluted it to 40%. It was still a decent drink on the rocks or in mixers. But in the last year (2013-2014) the quality has taken a nose dive. Gone is the complexity, gone is the smoothness. Its still the best you can get for £20 in the UK supermarkets but make no mistake - this is now a shadow of its former self. I'm amused to find myself genuinely angry about that! Why didn't they just raise the damn prices instead of tearing the soul out of what was a fantastic class leading straight Bourbon?
27th October 2014
was looking for a descent whiskey to make Manhattans, It came recommended at a duty free store in Michigan after getting used to Makers Mark as the base for the mix drink. I really enjoyed it and bought a bottle of Makers Mark after. to be honest, I am no expert by any means but I think I am going to go back to the Buffalo Trace because I found it tasted better even as a sipping whiskey.
19th September 2014
A pleasant Bourbon, but a bit simple and lacking in depth compared to Woodford Reserve and Eagle Rare. A reasonable budget bourbon however and has a pleasant flavour.
31st August 2014
Honestly I prefer this to the 45% version I had a few times over the last couple of years. Don't go nuts with the ice: 3 cubes max. 2-3 fingers. The nose hits you even off the table, its wonderfully rich and toffee/caramel. The taste is smooth, as heck. As all heck. Lovely caramelized white oak sugars, toffee fudge and banana. A delicious finish that doesn't linger too long. You never get ethanol at any point from nose to gut. Its that good! This just blows away anything else at the price point. Jack Daniels wished it tastes this great. Beam White can't compete either. There is no better Bourbon for sale in the UK @ £20 or less. Wonderful stuff! I wish the supermarkets stocked more of the top class bourbons from this distillery of which, google assures me, there are many!
7th July 2014
I thought that Audrey Hollander was the Kentuckian that I would most like to spend the night with, until I sampled the "TRACE" !!!!!!!
30th June 2014
Probably one off the best bourbons iv tasted so far top quality
29th June 2014
nose is mint caramel, wood char, sweet and syrupy taste minty, cloves sugar, very very watery finish sweet and short. better than beam or JD but not worth repeat buys if you're expanding your palate and emptying your pockets.
6th June 2014
выпил уже 3 бутылки этого бурбона! мой любимый))) жаль что они уменьшили крепость до 40%. но у нас пока только 45% (90 proof) :)))
2nd May 2014
I've never gone back having had a drop of this, lovely taste and not too harsh for the average whiskey drinker. Lovely stuff!
20th February 2014
Actually is not bad. I am scotch drinker but the guy from my local liquor store ask me to try this because I love sherry scotch like The Macallan. I was really impress how smooth this bourbon. I also bought The 1792 Ridgemont Reserve Bourbon and man it's pretty amazing. I have two Bourbon in my collection of Scotch but I really have to say that I'M impressed.
6th February 2014
This was my first bourbon and there's something about it that I can't quite put my finger on. I like it, I keep refilling my glass and I'm in love with the finish. The nose is Vanilla, sugar paper and fresh toffee. The palate has a sweet but waxy quality to it like beeswax drenched in honey and the finish is thoroughly satisfying. Can't say whether I'll be buying another bottle yet, I have a few more to try but it's definitely worth a punt in my opinion.
25th January 2014
Good price good taste.
22nd January 2014
Saw in supermarket and thought I'd try something different. Really nice sipping whiskey but didn't feel that it mixed well with diet coke
17th January 2014
I can tell this of good quality, but there was something about it that just didn't work with me. Not sure what it was. Did make a nice Manhattan though.
11th January 2014
20th November 2013
I'm a fan of all whisky and it's taken me a while to move into the realms of bourbon, but I must say, I wish I had earlier. This is delightful, if anyone hasn't tried bourbon yet, possibly put off by weak versions they've tried in the past. I'd strongly suggest this. It's very similar to green bottle. As a whisky fan, buffalo trace has brought that excitement back! I can't wait to delve a little deeper into American whiskey. It's smooth, full of flavour, not as complexed as Scottish malt but not to be overlooked. At the price, you could do a hang of a lot worse.
17th October 2013
It's an ok bourbon that's all. After tasting Makers Mark Straight Bourbon this is just a faint memory to the full potential of a bourbon.
13th October 2013
I came to Buffalo Trace at a tasting and my local hostelry had a bottle brought in. It didn't last long enough. A new Manager and a new bottle. It's going the same way as the first. BT invites one to it's warm, encompasing world. It doesn't treat you ill. Smooth, not over powering but still full bodied. A true classic.
5th October 2013
Sweet, warm, and inviting mix of dried-fruit and grain flavors. Mixes well, tastes great neat. Best £20 you'll ever spend on a bottle of booze.
11th August 2013
Had a bottle bought for me for my birthday last Thursday (1st).I was amazed how well this tasted, I would buy this again in a heartbeat great bourbon.
6th August 2013
Very easy bourbon with style. Personally prefer a little more depth and flavour, but it is defnitely not bad. Easy recommendation if getting to know with better bourbons.
30th May 2013
I never liked whiskey untill a friend had me try buffalo trace
5th April 2013
Rating for the above comment
6th March 2013
Warm spice in the nose; corn, vanilla and toasted caramel with nuts on the palate. Finish dry from the rye with dare I say it, a little orange oil?!.Unblievable bourbon for your buck or sterling.
Nose - Black treacle, caramel, pine, cream custard, warm toffee pudding, molasses, all things good and sticky and sweet.Taste - Vanilla ice cream, warm oak, bread and butter pudding, black treacle. The nose is more busy than the taste but this is a good drop, any seasoned scotch drinker can taste and enjoy the quality here.
19th January 2013
They are flogging this at£18 per bottle this christmas.
23rd December 2012
Vanilla and wood, marvelous on the most and absolutely delicious on the palate. An all around awesome whiskey and one of the best price points, especially stateside. I could drink this everyday and never get bored. Quality stuff .
26th November 2012
I supposed to have 45% whiskey, but they have diluted this. I fear worst, Bland and watery taste, but this was something else! Smooth and sweet, similar chocolatey aroma like Eagle rare 10yo, but not so sweet. There's also cherry and some rye making complexity and long finish. This is best for the price, many times better than Jim Beam Black. I think this is better than Eagle rare. In fact I suppose this is best bourbon I have ever tasted. (Beam black, maker's, 4 roses small batch, eagle, knob, that's my list).
9th September 2012
Number 1 wot. This bourbon is great
25th July 2012
