Bruichladdich
Scotland
Another peated Port Charlotte expression from Bruichladdich, released as part of the Cask Exploration series. OLC:01 was distilled in 2010, and then rested in a combination of bourbon, Syrah and vin doux naturel casks. In 2019, the whisky was transferred to Oloroso sherry hogsheads for its final 18 months of ageing. A complex balance of dried fruit sweetness, oily nuts and citrus is to be found among the fragrant peat smoke in this one.
Peat smoke shrouds jammy dark fruits, with caramelised nuts, festive spices and orange peel, with notes of mocha, maple syrup and a touch of maritime influence.
Rich and oily, with fragrant smoke, candied nuts and dried fig, alongside cigar box, peppery oak and more orange peel.
The smoke is dry now, with dried fruit sweetness, cocoa and vanilla buttercream, supported by mineral saltiness and citrus curd.
