Octomore 10.3 6 Year Old Islay Barley

Octomore 10.3 6yo Islay Bottling Note

A 6 year old single malt Scotch whisky from Bruichladdich's esteemed Octomore range - for this expression from the Octomore 10 series, the barley used was from a single field on a single Islay farm! It was aged fully in American oak casks and bottled after half a dozen years at 61.3% ABV. The Octomore 10 series explores 'softer smoke', and as such, was peated just to 114PPM.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Coastal peat and a touch of TCP, balanced by milky coffee and honeycomb.

Palate: Bright notes of citrus and green apple as it opens, before more maritime notes develop, along with a whiff of burnt sugar.

Finish: A long finish with plenty of peat to linger over.

Yikes! This is something else!
Initially I balked at paying this much for a six year old but it's worth every penny. Age is not everything. This is an experience, like parachuting or driving an F1 car. A little goes a long way so I save this for special occasions.

Superb
Crisp, punchy and rounded. The peat is in the background, but it's so much more than that. Good enough to eat. Tasted like fruits and vanilla custard/crème brulée.
