Bruichladdich Islay 2009 Bottling Note

It's the 2009 vintage of Bruichladdich's popular Islay Barley single malt Scotch whisky! We love that Bruichladdich specify which farms the barley came from for these releases - this time, the barley came from Claggan, Cruach, Island and Mulindry farms on the renowned famous island in the Hebrides.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: White grapes and orchard fruits (a touch of stewed plum too), herbaceous mint and vanilla.

Palate: Fresh waffles with apple slices and a generous pouring of syrup. Oak builds up, as does a floral malt.

Finish: Warming with continued golden cereals.

Bruichladdich Islay Barley 2009 Reviews

Lovely stuff

Nice dram once it opens up after a few weeks. It does have a remembrance of peat to it which really gives it an extra dimension. I always get a mezcal note with Bruichladdich, never more so than this particular expression. I would recommend this, however it's probably worth trying to source the 10 year old for an extra £5.

Unpeated?

This is interesting stuff. They state it's upeated,..but,....I get definitely get some kind of earthy notes like peat. It's like they took a biscuit with butter and honey and buried it in the ground for a little while. It's thick, with cereal notes and malt. I smell the underlying earthiness. On the taste -- a nice sweetness, white fruits with some vanilla from the cask and more of that buttery biscuit with a bit of white pepper. Pretty long finish. I like it.
