From Decadent Drinks comes Whisky Sponge Edition No.96, a 19-year-old, vintage 2005 Bruichladdich single malt matured in a single first-fill barrel and bottled at a cask strength of 55.% ABV. This bottling is paired with Whisky Sponge Edition No.97: a single refill hogshead of Isle of Jura 1994, also bottled at cask strength.
Here's what the brand had to say on both: "Both these casks spent their entire life maturing at their respective distilleries on their islands of origin. As we hit the final run of our Whisky Sponge series, we wanted to focus on and celebrate the distilleries and profiles we really love. And there aren’t many places as close to our hearts as Islay and Jura. We deliberately looked for two single casks from these two beautiful Islands which were both unpeated and which had both matured fully on the Islands. We are pretty delighted with the results, and we feel it forms part of a fitting final run of Sponges."
Tasting Note by The Producer
This Bruichladdich is extremely creamy, maritime and bright. Full of peppery and waxy power and texture, it shows the robustness of Islay whisky without the peat. And it’s a true, evocative and beautifully coastal and mineral Island single malt.
