Braeval 9 Year Old (That Boutique-y Whisky Company)

Prepare for liftoff as you embark on a flavour odyssey, transcending the earthly realms. Assembled in the crucible of a Pedro Ximénez hogshead, this liquid celestial being is not merely a whisky; it is an astral revelation, bottled by That Boutique-y Whisky Company for the cataclysmic End of the World series. Distilled at Braeval and aged for 9 solar rotations, the whisky carries the weight of cosmic complexity that defies gravity itself.

Behold the label, a prophetic depiction of the apocalypse featuring the cosmic enigma — the black hole. As you sip, envision the event horizon drawing you closer to the cosmic singularity, a vortex of flavour that mirrors the impending doom portrayed before you. Godspeed, flavour pioneers. The countdown to the end begins now.

Batch 5 is a release of 508 bottles.

That Boutique-y Whisky Company bottles limited edition whiskies from a variety of renowned distilleries as well as producing award-winning blends, all adorned with cultish graphic novel-style labels. The brand won Spirits Bottler of the Year at the 2023 Spirits Business Awards, and Blender of the Year went to Sam Simmons, captain of the Boutique-y clan who oversees every one of these releases.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Dark, jammy fruits and herbaceous berries offer plenty of sherried sweetness alongside rich cherry chocolate and sun-dried fruits.

    Palate

Silky dark chocolate coats the palate, with stewed blackberries, currants, and honeyed dates, while dense oak nestles beneath.

    Finish

Woody spices join toward the end, backed by powerful layers of sherried oak, a smidge of chilli, and candied ginger.

    Amazing

Great whisky! its like drinking those little boxes of raisins you used to have as a kid.

    Amazing

Almost nicer than the 16 year Aberlour.

    Ben Taxman Jul 4, 2024

Almost as good as a 16 year Aberlour

Depth of flavour is amazing. My only criticism is that its a 50cl bottle, which I didn't realise when I bought it.
