Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Nutella on brown bread, sea salt and a hint of lemon zest.

Palate: Vanilla notes are up front and sweet (though earthy vanilla pod does appear after a minute). Plenty of coastal peat smoke.

Finish: Lingering smokiness.

Bowmore No.1 Reviews

I'm being generous with 0.5 out of 5

Why would a distiller of one of the best and most subtle of Islay malt whiskies pretend that maturing it in Bourbon casks could be anything but a disaster. Would you buya bottle of highland spring water if you thought it had been bottled in unwashed CocaCola bottles? Why does everything have to taste of something else these days? The lunatics have taken over the the factory here.... and the Bowmore board. They say there's no such thing as bad whisky. True. This isn't bad... it's vile.

A truly beautiful whisky

I have no idea what some of these negative comments are on about. It is the sweetest, full flavoured whisky that I have tasted. Pure heaven. Vanilla sweetness, cinnamon spice and oak smoke beautifully complement the mouth watering citrus, honeycomb and coconut flakes, culminating in a peat smoked, bourbon, vanilla and lime finish.... what is there not to like. I love it.

Not good

Just not good enough. There is some good stuff in this to appreciate, but overpowered by a harsh mentol note (cheap alcohol). If this is meant to be a warm introduction to the brand, it fails. I hope that Bowmore will up there game on this NO.1. Honest reviews help with that, so this is mine. Cheers x

Good value, easy drinking malt

Sweet toasted oats, citrus at the seaside, vanilla and fruitcake, soft gentle smoke, not in your face, this is an easy malt to like.

Carbolic

First sniff of this reminded me of Izal medicated toilet paper, and now I can’t drink it without that in my mind. Carbolic acid smell. Will have to mix with something to get rid

Sweat and smokey but lacking full flavour

This one wasn't really for me. Sweet and lightly smoky on the nose but had horrible burn and not a very long after taste, was really missing the depths of flavour I was looking for on this, I paid £30 for a bottle but I wouldn't pay again unless it was on offer maybe

Full of vanilla, full of smoke, but weak on general.

Full of vanilla, full of smoke, but weak on general. Value for money. It was £20 :)

Nice but not nasty

Early in my journey, I tried this and loved it, but as my palette develops, I find this one watery and lacking and great flavours or solid smokiness. A nice drop but this will be the last bottle I buy. Should have stuck with the Talisker for a similar price. For a few dollars more just buy Johnnie Green.

Very poor, overoaked.

I don't like this one. It tastes of the cheap spirits they had lying around that ought to have gone to be blended but that instead were heavily oaked to cover the imperfections and then bottled. I normally like Islays, with the exception of Laphroaig, which is rather phenolic for my taste. The others are delicious. This isn't, I finished up losing it in blended whisky.

Save your money

This is a fairly cheap single malt. And in this case you absolutely get what you pay for. Smokiness alone does not a good single malt make. I received this bottle as a gift. I would be angry if I had paid for it myself. I have given it several tries and sad to say, the remains have of this bottle will be coating my kitchen sink drain pipe. Not even worth half a star rating.
