Bowmore 30 Year Old 1989 - Xtra Old Particular The Black Series (Douglas Laing)

The second release in Douglas Laing's Xtra Old Particular The Black Series (which is reserved for some incredibly special expressions) is an independently bottled Bowmore, distilled back in March 1989. It was allowed to age for 30 years in a single refill hogshead before being bottled in June 2019. Just 276 bottles of this rare Islay single malt were produced.

Tasting Note by The Producer

Nose

Opens with an oceanic fresh style showing beachy rock pools, warm sand and a harbour-like character.

Palate

Interestingly subtle initially till a mouth-puckering saltiness shows, followed by ash, soft summer tar, and gentle peat.

Finish

Now it's rather sweet and develops to something gently spiced, smoked, phenolic, coal dusty, sooty and long.
