Brazilian amburana wood brings a particularly fragrant twist to Bivrost Seidr. It’s made at Aurora Spirit Distillery at 69°N, beneath the Lyngen Alps in Arctic Norway, using Nordic Pilsener malt from Planet and Popino barley. Water comes from Elvejordvannet, fed by glacial meltwater from the surrounding mountains, while fermentation combines lager yeast, Saccharomyces pastorianus, with an old English ale yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

Distillation takes place in a copper pot/column still with two active plates, with runs lasting around eight to ten hours and the heart collected at approximately 75% ABV. The whisky matures in first-fill bourbon casks before finishing in casks made from Brazilian amburana at the distillery, where the average annual temperature is approximately 0.6°C, with pronounced seasonal changes between the midnight sun and polar night.

Seidr takes its name from the Norse magical practice associated with prophecy, transformation and influencing events, particularly linked to Freya, who was said to have taught it to Odin. An appropriate name for a whisky whose character is so distinctly transformed by its finishing wood. The 2026 release comprises approximately 3,000 bottles, presented at 48% ABV in 50cl bottles with printed cartons.

Anyone who enjoyed Vanaheim from the earlier Nine Worlds series will recognise the inspiration, although this release develops that approach with a revised recipe and longer maturation.
