Bivrost Nornir brings whisky, Nordic folk music and Norse mythology together in a collaboration with Dutch singer-songwriter Gealdýr*. The whisky and accompanying music were developed as parts of the same project, with Gealdýr working alongside the Bivrost team to explore cask combinations and flavour profiles before personally selecting the final expression. It's a lot more than just putting a musician’s name on the label.
The whisky was initially matured in rye casks, followed by finishing in maple syrup and Amontillado casks, with a small amburana component completing the composition. Bottled at 50% ABV, the release is limited to 1,500 and its name comes from the Norns, three beings associated with fate and the course of human lives in Norse mythology: Urðr, Verðandi and Skuld, linked here with past, present and future. They also inspire Gealdýr’s accompanying four-track EP, comprising Urðr, Verðandi, Skuld and Nornir, scheduled for release on major streaming platforms alongside the whisky on 21 October 2026.
Each bottle includes a unique QR code providing access to the complete EP and an additional track, Bivrost, created specifically for the collaboration. That fifth track will initially be exclusive to bottle owners for approximately one year, rather than appearing on regular streaming platforms. Something to listen to while you taste all that cask influence, then.
*Gealdýr is the musical project of Jonathan Barendsma, founded in 2019. His atmospheric dark folk draws on Norse mythology, Celtic and early medieval traditions, ancient stories and languages.
