Undisclosed Islay 18 Year Old 2007 (cask 10009) - Berry Bros. & Rudd
An 18-year-old single malt from Islay, its identity kept under wraps, but its character is impossible to hide. Finished in oloroso sherry casks and bottled by Berry Bros. & Rudd, this is a dram where peat and sherry intertwine in bold style. One of just 667 bottles.
Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose
Waves of ashy peat smoke rise first, followed by rich dried fruits, cinnamon and hazelnut. Hints of leather-bound books and pipe tobacco. A touch of sea spray lingers at the edges.
Palate
Sherried sweetness immediately coats the palate. Sticky toffee pudding and chocolate-coated raisins meet tobacco leaf, espresso and earthy spice. The peat is smoky rather than medicinal, swirling gently around treacle and liquorice root.
Finish
Long, smouldering and complex, with glowing embers, dried fruit richness and a final flicker of seaweed brine and sweet spice.
