Origins is a fascinating range from the Gordon & MacPhail-owned distillery, exploring how changing different aspects in the production process will influence the final spirit. Made exclusively with Golden Promise barley, this batch was then matured in first fill American Oak Sherry casks.
Smoky and creamy apple crumble, vanilla and tomato vine.
Orchid fruits and a little damp grass, wood smoke nearby.
Smoky barley lingers.
A great Benromach made from a single variety of barley.

There wasn't any nose to speak of if you ask me, a wee bit of smoke but nothing to write home about. When I sipped it, I got a blast of apples, and of course, the toffee/butterscotch undertones that seem prevalent of a Speyside. The finish is spectacular. This malt coats your entire mouth and tongue with licorice and oak and stays around for a long time. The high alcohol was initially hot on the tongue, but it didn't need a fire extinguisher to put out the flame. A good pepper stimulation that abated as you swirl it in your mouth. Subsequent tastes were substantially milder and chocolate and cloves highlight the taste. j
I've tried this whisky yesterday and I found there is no any sherry influence at all.Is a bourbon barrel...all those who likes whisky matured in sherry will be disappointed.
