The excellent 10 Year Old expression from the Benromach Distillery is a marvellous single malt, which is matured in a classic combo of first-fill bourbon and sherry casks. Packing plenty of dried fruit, fresh vanilla and smoky notes, it's approachable but flavoursome indeed.
Dry, barley, big on malt and oak. Dry pine, fruity. A tad spirity. Sweet spices after a time and a hint of puckering prune from the sherry cask and maple fudge.
Barley, slightly herbal, a little fruit, grassy. Big on malt, ground ginger.
Mouthwateringly bittersweet. Ginger, dry sherry, almost hoppy after a while.
I don't know where the descriptors from MOM came from for their tasting notes but they are way off, so here is mine: This is a TRADITIONAL Speyside, so guess what you will find? Peat! And wow is it an amazing nose on top of the barley sugar, cake, raisins, clove, spice etc. ABV of 43%, no colour added and a creamy mouthfeel leave me feeling like I got a great value for $ and will be going back for more!
Massive burn straight after opening. Did calm down after a few days. Flavour is all barley and malt. More so than any other single malt I've had. A bit underwhelmed. Perhaps an older expression would bring the undoubted quality to the fore, but really couldn't recommend the 10.
Quite rich, sweet and fruity - definitely benefitting from the sherry casks - with a hint of smokiness. Easy to drink. Absolutely fantastic value
My first taste and what a wonderful surprise, absolutely delicious
