Benriach The Twelve Bottling Note

From Benriach's 2020 relaunch of its cracking core range comes The Twelve, a 12 year old Speyside single malt mature in a trio of casks - namely sherry casks, bourbon casks and Port casks! This maturation has imparted dried fruit notes galore, alongside wafts of good coffee and subtle spices. Very impressive indeed.

You could win a VIP trip to Benriach when you buy a bottle of this cracking whisky! Check out our blog for all the details.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Maple syrup on blueberry pancakes, dark chocolate, quince and orange.

Palate: Honeyed cereals, cooked apple, chocolate peanuts and soft, almost jammy sultanas.

Finish: Mocha, honey, dried fruit and mixed peels.

Benriach The Twelve Reviews

Although review is not great, please try and gauge for yourself

Born in a land of hard competition and sadly only sits mid-table. The nose is harsher than I like, palate is like that of a highland and finish leaves the taste of alcohol. For those reading this (for comparison) my favourite tipples are (1) balvenie 12 and (2) macallan gold.

A cask too far ?

Not sold on this 1 . The addition of the port cask has for me spoiled what could have been a really good whisky . The 3 just dont work together for me . Of course taste is subjective , but I think this would have been much better without the port cask .

gets 3 stars for being 46% non chill filtered and natural colour , but not 1 I'd buy again

Hits you on the nose right away

Very richly flavored, butterscotch/syrupy sweetness without being too sugary. The flavor hits immediately and hard. Hints of orange peel or succade. A good dram for sipping. Good value for money.
