Benriach 7 Year Old 2011 - Single Cask (Master of Malt)

Here we have a single cask single malt from Benriach in Speyside, independently bottled by none other than Master of Malt (that's right, it's us!). Interestingly, this is a peated expression from Benriach, so if like your smoky single malts, this ought to be one to keep your eye on. It was distilled in April 2011 and left to mature in a bourbon cask for 7 years before being bottled in May 2018 at cask strength - a hearty 64.2% ABV.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Sweet malt, fudge, honey and wafts of earthy smoke.

    Palate

Ripe apricot and nectarine notes are juxtaposed by hot cinnamon, white pepper and roasted oak.

    Finish

The smoke gives way on the finish, making room for chocolatey richness.

    Big, big flavour

A little treat for myself while we are 'confined to barracks '. I was interested by the description of a peated speyside malt at cask strength. The tasting notes were helpful and tempting. Well it doesn't disappoint. Big smoke, big flavour and a rich chocolatey finish. I am very pleased with my choice. Well done you Masters!
