My husband has been drinking bells for many years and sings its praises all the time and for the first time ever he called me in ( I know nothing about whisky) and demanded that I be in touch with Bells and complain profusely. He says it tastes like thinners and will go back to Jameson's albeit more pricey. This may be the death knell for Bells.
I love scotch, love single malts but , realistically, who can afford to drink them exclusively? This is a damn fine dram with a bit of smoke, toffee and real complexity. If you outright reject this stuff, your prejudices are telling. Let it mellow in the glass a bit, also good with an ice cube. I agree with a previous review - better than JW red and probably black too, Ballantines, even Teachers. Enjoy!
Reminds me a little of Teachers but I prefer this. There's a subtle and smooth peaty, smoky taste which definitely grows on you. The bottle looks cheap and nasty and I think that's half the problem, because people who think they know whisky (but don't) immediately label it as cheap tat. This definitely tastes more refined than most budget blends. Rates a 10 for taste in this price bracket.
