A full litre of Arthur Bell's finest. Now no longer billed as an 8 year old, the 'Original' is still very much a great value proposition, and is as good now as it ever was.
I'm sure it used to be better 20+ yrs ago? The problem with blends, is that the actual single human Master Blender is the absolute maker / breaker of any & all blends. Only that one person, can maintain the distinctive taste of a blend over the years. I now find Bells a bit too oily / pretrolly these last years, but it can all change.
Superb
No doubt like many others, I have bought 1970s and 1980s bottlings of Bells in whisky auctions to compare to the modern day stuff like this. I can say unequivocally and undisputedly that comparison is futile - they do not compare both in the sense that the older bottles are infinitely better AND that they are not even reminiscent of each other. I have done this with Bell's, Grouse, White Horse, Teacher's, VAT 69 and Black & White - all with the same result. Given the shift in interest towards single malt and the surge in popularity of whisky as a whole, this is predictable and the logical result. However, I wish brands would stop pretending modern-day blends are the same proposition. They're not. They're young, grain-heavy drinks that are, at best, acceptable and, in most cases, for mixing.
Got a bottle bought me by a friend of the wife, thought have it when getting short off the good stuff, when I had a drink a few weeks later I was amazed, it is better than some whiskies i have paid double and triple that amount for, I was telling people what a great whisky it was
I’m a big whiskey man and lover of whiskey bells is honestly amazing! It has an oaky flavour and comes off with sweet refreshing taste to the buds! Not to strong and.is a scotch best!
