Since 2002, the Balvenie distillers have dedicated one week a year to distilling whisky with 100% peated barley, resulting in the Peat Week bottlings! This is the second release in the series - a 14 year old single malt distilled in 2003, showing off hearty helping of rich smoke.
This bottle was part of a private collection - if you'd like more detailed photos just get in touch!
Toasted oak with a hint of heather, stroopwafel and coffee, flamed orange peel and dry cedar.
Butterscotch, roasted apricot, a light touch of floral malt, grows enjoyably spicy as it develops.
Earthy peat lingers alongside runny honey notes.

I love the Islays and so my wife bought this for my 40th. Although it says ‘peat’ in the name, this is miles from my fave tipple, Lagavulin 16. It’s delicious though! Smells like pine, tastes like fruit peel with a (random) hint of pear drops. Love it, but don’t expect an Islay style Scotch.
Strong smoke & peat taste on top of a smooth speyside whisky.
I was so looking forward to this whisky, since I have the highest regard for Balvenie and a preference for mildly peated Scotches. But I found it without complexity, balance, or, really, anything to recommend it.
Fantastic expression. Great balance between the peat's smokey/earthy tones, spicy wood and your typical honey/vanilla and floral notes that you'll find in most Balvenies. Excellent stuff, get it while it's still available
