Balvenie The Sweet Toast Bottling Note

Stories always start at the beginning (unless they're one of those purposely confusing stories like Memento or those Funnybones books - it's never explained why they're skeletons!), and this is the introductory release from The Balvenie Stories range! These releases all give light to events and people in Balvenie's past and present - this one, for example, takes inspiration from apprentice malt master Kelsey McKechnie and her idea to import virgin oak barrels from Kentucky and deeply toast them at the distillery's cooperage. They were then filled with Balvenie's ex-bourbon oak aged whisky for a finishing period, resulting in... Well, this very whisky you see here!

Balvenie 12 Year Old - The Sweet Toast of American Oak Reviews

Very smooth

If you want to get your partner to share your love of whisky this is a great bottle to try … I think some of the negative comments are probably due to more educated pallets… a bit like trying Indian food for the fist time ( Korma ) loving it and moving on to the hotter tastier dishes..

A bit disappointing. Like the others have said the nose takes a bit of time to come through but then it really smells great. It’s very sweet and has a strong alcohol hit. It actually reminds me of Dranbuie! The finish is very short. I’m hoping it will improve with leaving it a few weeks but if you’re a balvenie fan, stick with the standard 12

Such a comforting dram.

Recently been introduced, ticks all the boxes for me, a wonderful dram that’s difficult to leave alone. A very well done.

Disappointing dram from Balvenie

I, like reviewers below am a fan of Balvenie. I have 7 other offerings from Balvenie and love them all.
This is really alcoholic on the nose and needs 20 minutes in the glass before I can nose it. The flavour profile is smooth and sweet. There is almost no finish and then there’s the alcoholic burn. Being a fan, I may have been expecting too much. Nevertheless, disappointing.

The best

Brilliant makes me feel contented and snug and a wee bit tipsy later on

Smells and tastes great...until you swallow.

First of all, I am a big Balvenie fan. This whisky has an aroma that reminds me of saw dust, with tastes of honey and oats. It is ridiculously smooth too. It has great characteristics, but the taste falls off sharply. It leaves you with a taste of city water on the back end, which makes me think they sacrificed flavor for smoothness. I guess if you’re new to whisky, then this would be a good starter to get your foot in the door. Otherwise I’d go with the Double wood.

Pleasant, bright, smooth

I like it - cirtus on the nose, more citrus but with more sweetness and creaminess coming to the fore and a clean, pleasant finish. It is incredibly sippable and is, as far as any whisky can be, a summer whisky. It's good product for the money.
