Much of the single malt produced at Speyside's Balmenach distillery is destined for premium blends including the likes of Johnnie Walker... not this little gem though! This single malt joins the Darkness range of intensely sherried whiskies, having matured for nine years, including a finish in a single oloroso sherry octave cask. The smaller casks that Darkness uses allow more interaction between the wood and the whisky, so you can expect mouthcoating layers of sweet, nutty spice here.
Toasted almonds join crème brulée with a crunchy caramelised top, while coffee and oak char nestle beneath.
Layers of thick, runny toffee and chocolatey malt are backed by baking spices and burnt custard.
Chocolate buttons, barley sugar sweeties, spiced, syrupy flapjack with a trickle of treacle in tow.
