Sherry
A really fascinating release here from Thompson Bros. First, it's a Balmenach single malt and we don't see those often. Second, the maturation of this whisky is wild, with the bottlers describing it as a "sherry train". It spent six years ageing in a sherry hogshead, then two years in oloroso octaves, then a further two years in sherry butt. That's a trio of different styles of sherry casks!
Nutella, sherry-stained wood, plums, gingerbread, and toffee apples.
Pecan pie, dark chocolate, figs, blackberry jam, and earthy dunnage notes.
Cinnamon and hazelnut.
