    Balcones Baby Blue Corn

This is the first Texan whisky, as well as being the first whisky to be distilled from blue corn! When we first tried this we thought it was wonderful, though very "different". These days it's become a firm favourite, along with the rest of the craft distillery's fantastic releases.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Soft vanilla and notes of candied peel. Caramelised bananas, toasted oak and a little creamy cereal sweetness.

    Palate

Rich, thick, palate entry. A touch of dark caramel and baked apple. Baking spices, salted butter.

    Finish

    Spiced, medium finish. Quite sweet.

Very different and well worth a try

500 char limit sucks! SO's birthday this weekend. She likes JB White ?Want to elevate her experience without a slapping for a ~£200 bottle of bourbon, so exploring bourbon mash bill instead (corn & rye). This is the corn. As bottled, slightly "hot". Splash of water to cut to ~40%. Really interesting. Sweetness, vanilla of an OK bourbon, BUT oodles of spicy nuttiness. Oak, nutmeg, banana, clove, cinnamon, pepper, cardamom. Syrupy mouthfeel. It's a taste experience and great value. Try it!

    A different dram

If you fancy a different dram, then check out this baby corn whiskey. Nutty, not harsh, lovely at room temp. A nice price for something a little different.

    Vanilla Bomb

The nose is plain and simple a vanilla bomb, like you've just licked the middle of 20 custard creams in a row. There's a also a hint of orange peel, but vanilla rules the roost here. It's very gentle in the mouth, the creaminess really builds. There's icing sugar, vanilla, butterscotch and some cinnamon. After a swish there's a little fruit like from stewed apple and the merest suggestion of salted toffee. The spice really lingers on the finish.

    Truly Texas

A smooth almost silky example of the distillers art and skill

New (ish) but needs tweaked and we need morse specials in all lines. In the U.K.

Viscous oily and it has a nutty flavour with a BBQ corn/nut flavour. It’s very easy drinking has a slight kick at the end but it’s very viscous especially after drinking a lowland single malt in comparison. I think that this has great potential for long ageing in a French brandy barrels. It’s lacking layers but has all the ingredients for an American icon (never a classic because these guys are trying a new approach classic and I’m fully onboard however it needs the input of a Scotsman and my feeble nose is never going to trump the nose of a man who has 5 or 6 of generations of distillery mangers or warehousemen in his family.
