Balblair 2005 - 1st Release

Balblair 2005 1st Release Bottling Note

This is the first release of 2005 vintage Balblair single malt Scotch whisky (which is replacing the 2003 vintage in their core range). An enjoyable expression from the Northern Highlands distillery, matured in American oak ex-bourbon barrels and of course is presented in Balblair's very recognisable bottles.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Classic Balblair nose of oak-y vanilla, chocolate-y malt and light wisps of smoke.

Palate: Citrus blossom (and citrus peels) mixed with hints of barrel char spice and treacle tarts.

Finish: Fresh and spiced, with a little more floral malt.

Balblair 2005 - 1st Release Reviews

Just OK

Loved the 1999 2nd release. This is not as good. This batch has sulphur which is a turn off to me.

Great covenant?!

I stocked up ... Yes, dozens of bottle!

Excellent

What about wonderfully drammmmmmm with sublime scents that slowly come out slowly as the whiskey blends with the palate. Taste slowly. To be had absolutely, even just for the presentation of the balblair.

Very very disappointing

Really can't follow the common taste here, it's rough, it's sharp, it burns and if the burn has gone, there's nothing left. Monday bottling perhaps, but there's lotsa better things out there for less.
I own about a couple of dozens of scotch' but this is one of the worst.

Worth every penny

Yes one of the best smooth when opened with a smidgen of water a fine dram indeed

Smooth, an excellent whisky!

Karen’s tasting notes
On the nose- oaky bourbon cask, slight hint of citrus, butter
On the palate- creaminess, wood and notes of vanilla
Finish- long and lingering, with new oak and creamy toffee, and cloves.
Opens up with a few drops of water, oak and vanilla become more defined.

Exactly What you expect

Coming from Balblair, I had high hopes for this 12 year old, and I was not disappointed. This classic member of the core offerings is a solid whisky, with the classic Balblair flavor. Not as complex as the 99 or 90, but for the money, this one is a great regular drinker and an easy way to introduce new drinkers to the Balblair offerings. Strongly recommended.

The Balblair 10yo

The annual Balblair '10yo' has become a must have for me every year. They are always outstanding whiskies at a really good price. 46% ABV, non chill filtered and colour free. A very rewarding dram indeed.

A slow satisfying drink

Its Scottish spring which is much the same as winter and summer its cold and wet outside time cold shake off the working day...a mighty fine drink. Full of spice and that feeling of bodily warmth that occurs when you sip a fine whisky a definte buy again.
