This is the second release of a 1997 vintage from the Highland distillery of Balblair. Balblair bucked convention a few years back by replacing age-statement with vintages like those of wine bottles.

I have fallen in love with Balblair and this is just one of their really excellent whiskies. Perfect bourbon vanilla infusion into a very sophisticated malt. Highly recommended.
.....i do not believe in perfection. But, this is so wonderful. Exactly like the reviewer below, beauty nose that you can smell for ages, taste that can back it up with some sweet but not too sweet and other delicious stuff, warm, mellow with a pleasant malty slightly spicy finish.
wow. first time i've tried this distillery and i am pleasantly surprised. on the nose -apples, pear, citrus, hints of lemon, nutty grassy malty freshness. on the palate it's sweet, apple pie, more pear, caramel, toffee. for the finish, the sweetness lingers, and some spice. this is really drinkable stuff.
A fine drink indeed. Given to me as a gift during deer hunting camp it was a hit with those in attendance. A wonderful Scotch that has a finish unsurpasssed by any other. A must have.
Just had a bottle of this and it has been a very pleasant surprise. 1997 has more sweetness and it is more sophisticated than your regular Highland Whisky, but it still has those warming, strong characteristics, typical to region. Interesting one!
