Just. Look. At. The. Colour. Of. That! A 25 year old Aultmore matured in a single Sherry butt between 15th May 1990 and 10th August 2015 before we bottled it at a natural cask strength of 57.5% with neither chill filtration nor artificial colouring.
Raisins, dates, blackcurrants and a touch of crushed hazelnuts. Thick treacle and honey, with a little hint of rosewater too. A waft of damp wood.
Layers and layers of plump sultanas and raisins, dusted with chilli chocolate. Slightly herbal, followed by a touch bit of bonfire smoke.
Well balanced on the finish with fig and mint leaf. Drying and long.
Massively rich, hugely raisined deliciously rich and an absolute smasher.
One of the best I've tried; however, this is not a fresh and light Scotch. Nose is definitely oily. Heavy and syrupy, with a load of sweetness given the strength. Rich citrus, brown sugar/caramel, heavily sherried, and the smoke is there in the background. Other stuff mentioned above?...sure, why not. Reminiscent of the Benrinnes 23 Year Old 1985, or maybe a bit of the Nàdurra Oloroso crossed with a Companta (now that's wacky to consider).
