This indie Auchroisk was distilled in 2009 and matured for 13 (lucky) years in a single oloroso sherry hogshead. It was then bottled at cask strength by The Red Cask Company (who mature all their whiskies in sherry casks, hence the name), with an outturn of 284 bottles.
Treacle tart, strawberry jam, and chocolate cake.
Forest fruits, with salted caramel and vanilla pod.
Vegetal oak and a good dose of dried fruit sweetness.
I love a sherry cask and personally this is one of the best I’ve had. It’s unfortunate that every one I ever try from now on will be compared to this.
