Auchroisk 10yo 2010

A single cask bottling of single malt from Auchroisk, released by The Vintage Malt Whisky Co. as part of The Cooper's Choice independent bottling range. Distilled in 2010, this lovely Speysider was matured in American oak, before being treated to a finishing period in a Pineau des Charentes fortified French wine barrel. This was bottled up in 2021, with a total outturn of 306 bottles.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Wafts of coconut with ginger biscuits and oaky baking spices.

Palate Orchard fruits with rich, sweet honey. Orange and citrus combine with toasted, peppery oak and malt loaf.

Finish Honey nut cereal and sherried raisins with prickly root ginger on the finish.

A damn fine dram!
No faux literary allusions from me, I live with my feet on the ground (unlike a certain gentleman from The Isle of Man, who I suspect is responsible for the fanciful reviews that proliferate the whisky world).
This dram is a big, rich powerful whisky, best (imho) with a large dollop of water. Not for everyone but those who like it will love it.

Gourmand and robust dram
Nose: Pineau indeed, but also rose and citrus. Then strawberry pastry and orangettes (lovely dark chocolate).
Taste: Fruits and pepper followed by gunpowder.
Finish: Gunpowder.
Conclusion: Gourmand and robust dram.
