I bought a. case when cycling Arran, May bank hol weekend before official Aug opening by Q. Eliz. Cost me aprox £70, but case to be delivered six years later after paying excise duty, about £130 from memory. When delivered I. drank two bottles, gave one to best mate's wife, then in 2002 gave bottle to each of my six brothers/sisters, after daughter's wedding, and told them I'm saving last three bottles for first wake, whichever of us goes first! Marvellous drink, so much so that my last three bottles are secreted upstairs where I can't get at them should I fall weak one night after drinking Black Bush! Seeing current price makes me wish I'd bought more! .......but I'd prob not sell any. Too good to let go.
i was a founder bond holder ,i enjoyed some bottles and gave some away to friends,its all gone now,since then i have really enjoyed the Robert burns and lockranza,it takes me back to days in blackwaterfoot and the rock hotel,misty days.Seem to remember founder bond holders were promised the world but that's life,i know my outlay helped to start it and it improves the taste.
I omitted to say that it is an excellent whisky.
To clear up what I consider to be some misinformation. IOA Founder's Reserve is not a very special whisky bottled for shareholders of The Isle of Arran distillery. It was bottled for Founders who bought 'bonds' to generate cash for the founding of the company, which entitled the bond holders to receive IOA whisky after paying full VAT and Customs duty on every bottle bought, at the prevailing duty circa date 2000. There was no company share ownership, only an entitlement to buy bottles of whisky and I am one of the bondholders who thought I was buying shares in the company.
