Arran Amarone Cask

The 2010 released Amarone finish from Arran. This has a similar style to the brilliant Sassicaia finish. Amarone is dry Italian red made using partially dried Corvina grapes, Rondinella grapes and Molinara.

Reviews for Arran Amarone Cask Finish
One of their best
This is a great mix of the classic Arran malt spirit with a complex and uncommon finishing cask. Lots of dried fruit flavours on show. This is a strong spirit which for my palette benefits from a couple of drops of water.

Try mixing the Sauternes finish with the Amarone finish
Having just criticised the harshness of the Amarone finish I've just mixed some of the Sauternes finish with the Amarone finish and the result is most pleasing.

Unexpectedly harsh
Have had the Sherry Cask, the Bothy and the sauternes finish in recent weeks and have been impressed by them all, so was looking forward to this. Much more nose if amarone than flavour. Disappointed by the alcoholic harshness. I don't normally add water but this needs it to make it palatable. Hopefully it will mellow if i leave it for a month..or more

Good value and, yes, i would buy again
an oily mouth and a mix of fruit, and spice. A drop of O2 is benificial here. sweet at first with cherries and maybe redcurrents... dries nicely and has a reasonable finish.
Ive held on to not opening this(old bottle) for some time, but now is the time and it is a lovely whisky. might be a bit of strawberry on the palate too,

good value and, yes, i would buy again.

Exceptional value for a fine whisky.
I just had a bottle of this lovely whisky delivered yesterday and already I can see it being one of my favourites. I did find that adding a few drops of water brought out some lovely notes, so it may be worth experimenting to your own taste. You can certainly tell the difference with Amarone casks being used. Very nice indeed and easily worth the price.

Very good
Absolutely lovely dram (or several!). Really enjoyed the strong flavour and no need for any water based additives in my humble opinion (from an Islay peat fan)

Arron have a very good selection of fine whisky, haven’t found one I’m disappointed with yet
Being honest I picked this because my local wine merchant didn’t have any Arran Port Cask Finished in stock. Both are quit high in alcoholic content at 50% a dab of water is needed in my view. The Amerone is sharper than the Port finish... which is a little smoother still in need of a little water though. Not a bottle to drink one your own. Invite some friends who appreciate a decent scotch.

Satisfactory
It spent 8 years in ex bourbon casks and only 9 months in amarone casks. It's really only a finish, maybe it should spend some much time.
The amarone can be detected more in the colour than in the flavour, but it leaves its mark in any case.
I recommend it with some water since it has a high alcholic gradation and the alcol tends to cover its great flavour and aroma.

Quite good for its price and something to try!

GREAT - very balanced and complex Whisky
Nose: cinnamon, floral and fruity, sherry and red-wine, slightly bitter and dry
Palate: very smooth and elegant with notes of plum, cherry and cinnamon
Finsih: red-wine, herbs and dry
All in All: I like Arran very much but this bottle is one of the best. It combined the strength and deepness from Arran with the elegent character of Amarone-Casks
