The first core release from Islay's Ardnahoe Distillery, Infinite Loch was matured in a combination of bourbon and oloroso sherry casks. This single malt Scotch whisky was bottled at the distillery's preferred strength of 50% ABV, without artificial colouring or chill-filtration. The name was inspired by Loch Ardnahoe, located a stone’s throw from the distillery, who claim it's known on Islay as the ‘Infinite Loch’ because no one knows the extent of its ‘hidden depths’.
Sea spray and coastal peat join zesty notes of orange oil and salted lemons, malt biscuits, and cocoa.
Sweet and salty with a tangle of menthol and fresh fruits and smouldering beach bonfire embers.
Rich peat smoke and zesty citrus linger, with a touch of peppery warmth.
The nose is somewhat elusive, smokey certainly but with an almost obligatory mix of Islay notes. Then the first taste explodes in a wonderful spectrum of sea spray, dried herbs and sweetgrass with a clove undercurrent and well balanced peat. I never heard of this distillery before and it was a leap of faith to bring it home but I am impressed. It's like this is the Scotch that Laphroaig drinkers have been waiting for. A delightful peaty dram.
