    The Ardmore Legacy

Released in 2014 to take the place of the Ardmore Traditional, the Legacy brings a lightly-peated, wood spice-led flavour profile to the table. At its core, the Ardmore Legacy is made with 80% peated and 20% unpeated malt.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

It leans more on the savoury than the sweet side of things, with light barbecue char and earthy notes up-front. Sweet cinnamon, fresh honey and vanilla toffee waft up at points.

    Palate

More charred, smoky notes, joined by drying oak, pear drops and subtle grassy touches. Give it a minute for citrus zest and expressive heather to appear.

    Finish

A lasting peat smoke finish, with a little bit of honey'd barley for good measure.

    Pretty good value

A decent whisky this, don’t expect too much but I find that is certainly good for the price. Nicely Smokey, not overbearing.

    Smoke on the Water

Hints of damp fireworks overlayed with pink grapefruit zest and apple cores. I really must clean up the kitchen after night on the "Legacy". Having said that a thoroughly enjoyable nippy sweetie with a touch of tap water, to act as a distraction while while the wife watches Emmerdale.

    Not good

Very disappointed, glad I didn't pay top price, don't like the smell of it either bit like tcp!

Kind of good but not a bargain from the top shelf either.

So I came at this bottle expecting a bit too much and I was initially disappointed. I looked a the price and compared it other whiskies at a similar price and it’s kind of OK. No age statement, it’s gonna be a bit sudden and harsh at first. Not a lot of obvious scents or flavors either at least not in my batch. It’s definitely for drinking and not for slowly savoring, as a drinking whisky it’s ok, but it also benefits from sitting out of the bottle for a bit before you drink it. Don’t know how to categorize that and I probably will buy an Ardmore again but one of those more expensive malts.

Smoke so subtle at times it's not present. Pear, yes. Toffee too, but over snow and not over-sugared. Chewy. By God, this might be perfection in a glass.

What a pleasant surprise! I've avoided this whisky because it doesn't bear an age statement and it comes in at the industry low-mark of 40% ABV. What a mistake on my part. 'Subtle' is the word, but so too -- and almost shockingly so -- 'viscous', even 'lingering'. How does something so delicate haunt the imagination for seeming epochs after the snootful? Art, fellow tipplers! Art just about covers it. If whisky were a woman, her name would Ardmore.
